OverviewWe are currently seeking an experienced Infrastructure Lead to join our Global Infrastructure team to own and advance FuelCell Energy's global IT infrastructure. Reporting to the CIO, this role leads the infrastructure team and translates business needs into a practical, modern infrastructure roadmap across on-premises, cloud, manufacturing, and operational (OT) environments. This is a hybrid position based in Danbury, CT, with regular onsite presence to facilitate collaboration with cross-functional teams, support operational systems, and help ensure the reliability, security, and performance of our infrastructure.
The Infrastructure Lead combines hands-on technical depth, project leadership, and forward-looking architecture to improve reliability, scalability, performance, resilience, and operational efficiency across corporate offices, manufacturing facilities, cloud environments (Azure), and OT systems. The role partners closely with Cybersecurity to ensure infrastructure solutions meet established security, risk, and compliance requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the infrastructure team, establish priorities, assign work, remove obstacles, coach team members, and build the technical capability needed to support current operations and future growth.
- Create and maintain a multi-year infrastructure strategy and roadmap aligned with business priorities, site requirements, lifecycle risk, and the company's modernization goals.
- Lead the design, implementation, operation, and continuous improvement of hybrid infrastructure spanning on-premises systems and modern cloud services (Azure).
- Own infrastructure architecture and lifecycle planning for servers, virtualization, storage, backup and recovery, cloud platforms, networking, switches, wireless, firewalls, identity-related infrastructure dependencies, and core infrastructure services.
- Lead complex infrastructure projects from discovery and requirements through architecture, business case, planning, implementation, transition to operations, and benefits realization.
- Drive modernization by reducing technical debt, standardizing platforms, increasing automation, improving observability, and adopting cloud services where they provide clear business and operational value.
- Ensure infrastructure services are resilient, monitored, documented, supportable, and recoverable, with clear ownership, service expectations, capacity planning, and lifecycle standards.
- Lead incident response and problem management for major infrastructure issues, coordinate technical recovery, communicate business impact, and ensure root causes and corrective actions are addressed.
- Develop and test infrastructure disaster recovery and continuity capabilities in partnership with business, application, cybersecurity, and site stakeholders.
- Establish and enforce infrastructure engineering standards, architecture patterns, change control, configuration management, documentation, and operational procedures.
- Partner with Cybersecurity on secure architecture, vulnerability remediation, access controls, segmentation, logging, and compliance requirements while maintaining clear accountability for infrastructure delivery and operations.
- Manage infrastructure vendors and service providers, including technical evaluation, scoping, performance oversight, licensing, renewals, and cost optimization.
- Provide concise, decision-ready updates on project status, service health, risks, costs, dependencies, and recommended actions to IT leadership and business stakeholders.
Qualifications:Education:Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, engineering, or a related discipline.Extensive experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Preferred certifications include Microsoft Azure, networking, virtualization, IT service management (ITIL), infrastructure architecture, or a comparable credential.
Experience:
- Eight or more years of progressive infrastructure experience, including leading technical teams and enterprise infrastructure projects in hybrid IT and OT environments.
Candidate must have demonstrable knowledge/experience in:- Leading infrastructure teams and creating accountability, priorities, standards, and development plans.
- Designing, operating, and modernizing hybrid infrastructure across on-premises data centers and Microsoft Azure or comparable cloud platforms.
- Server operating systems, virtualization, storage, backup and recovery, high availability, disaster recovery, and infrastructure monitoring.
- Enterprise networking, including LAN, WAN, wireless, routing, switching, DNS, DHCP, VPN, internet connectivity, and firewall platforms.
- Cloud infrastructure architecture, governance, identity and connectivity dependencies, automation, cost management, resilience, and operational support models.
- Infrastructure as code, scripting, configuration automation, or orchestration practices that improve consistency and reduce manual effort.
- Planning and delivering complex, cross-functional infrastructure projects with clear scope, milestones, dependencies, risks, costs, and operational handoff.
- Technology lifecycle management, capacity planning, technical debt reduction, platform standardization, and vendor management.
- IT service management practices, including incident, problem, change, configuration, and service continuity management.
- Security standards, such as NIST CSF and IEC 62443, and how they influence secure infrastructure design.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to create clear documentation and communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong judgment, structured problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: - Work is performed in office, manufacturing, data center, and warehouse environments and involves the use of a computer and other office equipment.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, safety shoes, hard hats, and other PPE as designated.
- Ability to access infrastructure equipment in data rooms, manufacturing areas, and other site locations as required.
- Occasional travel to company locations and availability outside of core business hours for planned maintenance or critical infrastructure events may be required.
The pay for this position ranges from $135000 - $150000.
