Full Job Description
Designs, builds, secures, and supports IBM Db2 for z/OS database application environments to enable highly available, resilient, and reliable business services. Apply advanced database administration, performance engineering, automation, and problem-solving skills to optimize enterprise workloads, protect data, reduce operational risk, and achieve service, recovery, and regulatory objectives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.
1. Design, create, and maintain Db2 for z/OS database objects, including databases, table spaces, tables, indexes, schemas, storage groups, partitioning strategies, and related physical design standards.
2. Plans, executes, monitors, and troubleshoots Db2 utilities and maintenance processes, including REORG, RUNSTATS, COPY, MERGECOPY, RECOVER, LOAD, UNLOAD, and CHECK utilities, to sustain performance, integrity, and recoverability.
3. Administers packages and plans through BIND and REBIND activities, evaluates access paths with EXPLAIN and related tooling, and partners with application teams to improve SQL, batch, and online transaction performance.
4. Monitors and tunes Db2 subsystem and workload performance, including buffer pools, locking and concurrency, database statistics, distributed connectivity, and data-sharing components, using enterprise monitoring and diagnostic information.
5. Implements and validates backup, recovery, high-availability, and disaster-recovery capabilities for database objects and supporting workloads and maintains procedures that support established recovery objectives.
6. Troubleshoots complex production incidents, performance degradation, utility failures, deadlocks, timeouts, and data availability issues; contributes to root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and post-incident reviews.
7. Automates routine database administration, health checks, statistics collection, and utility processing using JCL, REXX/CLIST, scheduling tools, and other approved automation capabilities.
8. Supports Db2 upgrades, maintenance, function-level activation, environment migrations, application releases, and controlled production changes while following change, testing, validation, and separation-of-duties requirements.
9. Partners with application, z/OS, CICS, security, storage, operations, and engineering teams to implement secure, scalable database solutions and resolve cross-platform issues.
10. Applies least-privilege, data-protection, audit, and regulatory-control requirements to Db2 access and administration in coordination with enterprise security and governance teams.
11. Develops and maintains technical standards, operating procedures, recovery documentation, runbooks, and knowledge-transfer materials; provides technical guidance to less-experienced professionals.
12. Participates in on-call support and planned change windows for mission-critical Db2 for z/OS services and drives continuous improvement through monitoring, alerting, automation, and operational simplification.

Required Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, a related field, or equivalent education, training, and work-related experience.
2. Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in infrastructure engineering.
3. Strong knowledge of enterprise infrastructure technologies including cloud, network, database, storage, platform, computing, and middleware.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Hands-on experience administering IBM Db2 for z/OS in a large, high-availability production environment, preferably supporting financial-services workloads.
2. Experience with Db2 utilities, DDL, BIND/REBIND, EXPLAIN, access-path analysis, SQL tuning, locking and concurrency diagnostics, and database statistics strategy.
3. Experience with Db2 data sharing and Parallel Sysplex concepts, including group buffer pools, castout processing, locking, and recovery considerations.
4. Experience with Db2 backup and recovery design, image-copy strategies, point-in-time recovery, disaster-recovery exercises, and recoverability validation.
5. Experience with IBM OMEGAMON for Db2 Performance Expert, Db2 accounting and statistics reports, performance traces, IFCIDs, or comparable monitoring and diagnostic tools.
6. Working knowledge of z/OS operations and tooling, including TSO/ISPF, SDSF, JCL, JES, data set management, RACF, and enterprise scheduling platforms such as ESP.
7. Automation or scripting experience using REXX, CLIST, Python on z/OS UNIX System Services, z/OSMF workflows, Ansible for z/OS, or similar technologies.
8. Experience with ServiceNow or comparable IT service-management processes, including incident, problem, change, and configuration management in a regulated environment.
9. Experience supporting Db2 version upgrades, maintenance, function-level activation, object migrations, and application-release implementation across development, test, and production environments.
10. Strong analytical, communication, documentation, collaboration, and mentoring skills, with the ability to translate technical findings into clear risk and business-impact statements.
