Industrial Designer, you'll play a key role in creating educational products that balance creativity, usability, durability, and manufacturability. You'll work closely with engineers, educators, and product teams across BirdBrain Technologies, Strawbees, and Tinkering Labs to transform learning objectives into innovative, classroom-ready solutions that empower students to explore, build, and discover.
Key Responsibilities- Design and develop STEM educational products from concept through production.
- Create user-centered designs that are intuitive, engaging, durable, and manufacturable for classroom use.
- Translate educational objectives, user research, and stakeholder feedback into effective product solutions.
- Develop sketches, renderings, 3D models, prototypes, and design documentation to communicate and refine concepts.
- Build, test, and iterate prototypes based on user feedback, manufacturing considerations, and product requirements.
- Collaborate with Product Management, Curriculum, Engineering, Marketing, and Operations teams throughout the development process.
- Ensure visual consistency across products through thoughtful form, color, material, finish, packaging, and branding decisions.
- Present design concepts, recommendations, and rationale during design reviews and cross-functional discussions.
- Lead design-focused projects with suppliers and manufacturing partners, including defining design requirements, coordinating development activities, providing feedback, and ensuring successful execution through production.
- Advocate for the end user while balancing learning objectives, product performance, cost, quality, and manufacturing requirements.
What You'll Bring- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design or related field
- 3-7 years of product design experience in consumer, educational, or related products
- Experience using design tools such as SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Rhino, KeyShot, Adobe Creative Cloud, or similar
- Portfolio demonstrating user-centered design, problem solving skills, and production-ready work
- Equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience may be considered
Desired Qualifications- Experience designing products for children or classroom use
- Familiarity with product safety considerations for educational environments
- Working knowledge of UX/UI principles for physical-digital ecosystems
- Experience with CMF development and documentation
Work Location- This role follows a hybrid work model, combining remote work from a home office with regular onsite collaboration at our Sharon, Massachusetts office 3-days per week, and occasional visits to our headquarters in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
Travel Requirements- Occasional travel, typically less than 10%, as needed
Compensation- The expected compensation range for this position is $80,000 - $110,000 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and geographic location.
