Position Summary:The Human Resources Director serves as the senior HR leader for Texas Life, partnering with business leaders to align people strategies with organizational objectives. Reporting to the Head of Human Resources for Wilton Re Group, this role is responsible for leading and delivery HR initiatives across employee relations, workforce planning, talent management, organizational effectiveness, employee engagement, and total rewards.
The HR Director leads the Texas Life HR function and oversees a Sr. HR Specialist responsible for day-to-day HR operations, employee support, recruitment coordination, onboarding, offboarding, and HR administration. The role also partners closely with a shared Total Rewards resource to support compensation, benefits, payroll, equity, and retirement programs.
Role Responsibilities: Strategic HR Business Partnership
- Serve as the primary HR advisor to Texas Life leadership, providing strategic guidance on organizational design, workforce planning, talent management, and employee-related matters.
- Partner with business leaders to understand organizational priorities and develop HR solutions that support business objectives.
- Coach managers on leadership effectiveness, employee development, team performance, and organizational change.
- Identify workforce trends and recommend strategies to enhance organizational effectiveness, retention, and employee engagement.
Employee Relations & Performance Management
- Lead and manage complex employee relations matters, investigations, conflict resolution, performance concerns, and disciplinary actions.
- Partner with leaders to foster a culture of accountability, feedback, and high performance.
- Ensure consistency, fairness, and compliance in employee-related decisions and practices.
- Provide guidance on performance management, employee development, and talent retention strategies.
Talent Management & Workforce Planning
- Partner with leaders to develop workforce plans that address current and future talent needs.
- Provide strategic oversight of recruitment activities and talent acquisition priorities.
- Support organizational talent reviews, succession planning, and development initiatives.
- Oversee onboarding and employee transition programs administered by the Sr. HR Specialist to ensure a positive employee experience.
Compensation, Benefits & Total Rewards
- Partner with the Head of HR and shared Total Rewards resource to support the development and execution of compensation and benefits strategies.
- Provide business insight and leadership perspective to compensation planning, talent retention, and reward programs.
- Utilize compensation and workforce analytics to inform talent and organizational decisions.
- Collaborate with the Total Rewards resource on compensation planning, benefits strategy, payroll-related matters, equity programs, and employee communications.
- Serve as a key business partner for retirement and wellness programs, including participation in 401(k) governance and investment committee activities.
- Partner with the Total Rewards team to address complex employee issues related to compensation, benefits, payroll, and retirement programs.
Employee Engagement & Organizational Development
- Lead employee engagement initiatives and action planning efforts.
- Partner with leadership to strengthen culture, employee experience, and retention.
- Identify development opportunities and support learning initiatives that build organizational capability.
- Drive programs that support employee growth, inclusion, and business effectiveness.
- Work with Director of Communications when the message is to or affects employees, employment practices, or workplace culture.HR Leadership & Operations
- Lead and develop the Sr. HR Specialist, providing direction, coaching, and prioritization of HR activities.
- Ensure effective delivery of HR services and employee support across the Texas Life organization.
- Utilize workforce data and reporting to support decision-making and continuous improvement.
Budget & Strategic Planning
- Partner with the Head of HR on HR budget planning and resource allocation.
- Support workforce planning and organizational design initiatives aligned with business strategy.
- Use workforce, compensation, and engagement data to inform recommendations and planning decisions.
Risk Management and Compliance
- Monitor changes in federal, state, and local employment laws and recommend policy updates in coordination with legal.
- Lead person in employment issues, working with Wilton Re legal and outside counsel.
- Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures, and employee handbook.
Office & Facilities Management
- Oversee the Texas Life office environment to ensure a safe, productive, and professional workplace.
- Serve as the primary liaison with building management and external vendors.
- Coordinate office-related services and workplace initiatives.
Basic Qualifications: - Minimum 7 years of progressive HR experience, including HR business partner or generalist roles.
- Strong knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices.
- Experience supporting managers in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
- Demonstrated ability to manage employee relations matters with sound judgment and discretion.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR) preferred.
- Proficiency in accounting and auditing standards
- Knowledge of personal computer use, including Excel and SharePoint
- Must able to communicate with company employees and external auditors
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality of company information
- Prior experience in insurance/reinsurance required
Required Education / Certifications Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.

Hybrid Structure
Moderate travel required for this role.
Base salary/hourly rate range for this position in Texas is between $110,000 and $155,000. Please note that specific compensation decisions are based upon a variety of job-related factors as permitted by law, including geographic location, credentials, skills, education, training and experience.
