Responsibilities

The Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Manager at Eastman's Chestertown, Maryland site provides overarching personal safety, process safety and environmental leadership for the site. In this role, you will manage one HSE professional, assume accountability for site HSE performance and embrace and foster strong partnership with Chestertown Manufacturing leadership. The role reports up through the SFE and CI Regional Division HSE branch of the Global Health, Safety, and Environmental organization. This role will have parallel responsibilities within the CI Manufacturing organization which will include oversight of site environmental projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Joint responsibility (with Manufacturing) for overall HSE performance at the Chestertown site and responsibility for driving continual improvement in that performance
  • Understand and execute all permits at the site
  • Assure site environmental compliance
  • Lead team in execution of key elements of permits with support from the regional environmental compliance group
  • Work with HSES Specialist to audit for compliance
  • Oversee, through HSES Specialist, leadership the aspects of site programs such as industrial hygiene, Lockout/Tagout, electrical safety, emergency response, Life Critical Processes and other HSE elements
  • Provide leadership and direction for HSE initiatives throughout the site
  • Be a voice for the site regarding upward communication for all HSE site programs and responsibilities
  • Serve as primary contact with Maryland Department of Environment and other governmental agencies to represent Eastman and site
  • Serve as key member of the PSGC. Facilitate this team for the site.
  • Trained as a study leader for PHAs
  • Develop operational expertise in the utilities area, including WWT, boilers, cooling water and thermal oil systems
  • Execute project work at the site associated with the utilities areas
  • Scope development
  • Execution with contractors
  • Participate as a key member of the site leadership team
  • Coordinate site tracking of metrics and key performance indicators, recordkeeping and reporting
  • Manage and participate in the execution of safety audits, walk through inspections and design reviews
  • Manage the Chestertown HSE budget
  • Coordinate and perform training in various efforts of HSE


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental, biology, occupational health and safety, engineering or other related discipline required
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in a manufacturing environment required
  • Experience in chemical or petrochemical industry highly preferred
  • Industrial wastewater experience highly preferred
  • Experience managing an HSE team preferred
  • Prior people leadership and coaching experience preferred
  • Good interpersonal, communication and team skills
  • Strong customer focus, with demonstrated ability to solve complex issues and work in partnership with Manufacturing and other stakeholders
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

The base salary range for this position is $100,000 - $137,500 per year.
