As our HR Operations Manager, you'll own that experience end to end. You'll be the subject matter expert across many HR areas, and you'll keep a close eye on where our systems and programs work well for employees and the People team, where they don't, and what to build, fix, or retire.
You'll also use AI to cut operational drag and turn our people data into clear insights, so leaders can make smarter, faster decisions about the business. At HoneyBook, AI tools and training are available to everyone, so you'll have the support to turn good ideas into working solutions.

This role is a 40 hour per week hybrid position with 3 days/week required in-office.
Here are key responsibilities:Own the People Operations experience- Be accountable for the end-to-end experience of HR programs and systems, for employees and for the People team.
- Use employee questions, service patterns, and data to spot friction and risk, then decide what to improve, simplify, or retire.
- Give real-time, expert guidance on benefits, perks, policies, payroll deductions, and leaves of absence. Nuanced questions get a thoughtful, personal answer.
- Audit and redesign processes so they work for employees and the teams that support them, and document them in clear SOPs so Core HR work is done consistently and to a high standard.
Shape our systems and build with AI- Own our core HR systems (Bob, Ashby, Awardco, Paylocity) as a connected whole. Work with Finance, IT, and other teams to understand what each group needs, research the market, and lead the rollout of new tools when the business calls for them.
- Audit data regularly so what we report externally is accurate.
- Create agents, Claude skills, and automations that remove manual work and turn people data into insights for business decisions.
Lead our HR Centers of Excellence- Design and manage benefits programs, including reporting, auditing, and compliance with state, city, and federal requirements.
- Manage multi-state unemployment accounts and leave of absence programs.
- Run our perks and auxiliary benefits programs.
- Bring deep payroll-law expertise across states, and guide Accounting to keep payroll strictly compliant.
- Manage US immigration processes.
- Stay ahead of HR trends, best practices, and changing law so HoneyBook stays compliant.
Support People initiatives and employee lifecycle changes- Provide foundational support for company-wide programs, including feedback and compensation cycles, engagement surveys, and our recognition program.
- Manage the operational and compliance side of lifecycle changes.
- Partner closely with Finance, Accounting, and IT.
You bring- 7+ years of HR operations or People operations experience, with hands-on depth in benefits, leave, payroll compliance, and HR systems.
- Deep, practical knowledge of multi-state employment requirements, including strong command of California.
- Broad HR expertise across benefits, unemployment, leave, payroll, and immigration. Others seek you out for guidance.
- Experience building automation or AI-enabled workflows that changed how work gets done, using agents, no-code/low-code tools, or integrations.
- A track record of improving HR systems and data, and a high bar for accuracy.
- The ability to plan and deliver projects across multiple quarters, working from goals and direction rather than instructions.
- Clear, confident communication. You can make a benefits change or a payroll rule simple for anyone, and make a strong case for an investment to leaders.
- Sound judgment and discretion with sensitive employee matters, and the credibility to influence partners in Finance, Accounting, IT, and Legal.

- Curious and self-directed, energized by new tools, laws, and better ways of working.
Bonus points- Experience with Bob, Ashby, Awardco, or Paylocity.
- Experience with M&A integrations, contractor classification, or global remote workforces.
- Prior work in a high-growth technology company.
- HR certifications (SHRM-CP/SCP, PHR/SPHR, CEBS, or similar).
