Full Job Description
We are seeking a highly accomplished Business Services Sector Specialist to join Carlson Capital's investment team. This role is designed for an analyst with deep public-equity experience in the sector who wants to apply that expertise within a disciplined, market-neutral Equity Relative Value (EqRV) framework. The Specialist will be responsible for generating differentiated long/short pair ideas across large-cap Business Services companies, supported by Carlson's proprietary pairs analysis process, a world-class trading desk, and a suite of quantitative tools built on our own data collected over the past 30 years of relative value pairs trading.

The successful candidate will work directly with the CIO, own a defined sector research effort, and translate Business Services expertise into actionable pair-trade opportunities for Carlson's funds.

Role Overview
  • Generate actionable investment ideas within the Business Services sector for inclusion in Carlson Capital funds.
  • Build financial models to evaluate financial statements, market trends, earnings revisions, industry data, and economic indicators to assess pair trading opportunities within the sector.
  • Maintain comparative valuation work across Business Services peer groups.
  • Collaborate with the CIO and other Sector Specialists to develop investment ideas around current trends, themes, earnings inflections, and valuation dislocations.
  • Monitor portfolio-relevant developments, including earnings, guidance, industry data, regulatory changes, labor trends, and macroeconomic factors.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, accounting, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of experience analyzing large-cap public equities, with specific experience covering Business Services companies for a hedge fund, asset manager, sell-side research platform, or investment banking group.
  • Demonstrated ability to build detailed financial models, forecast earnings, evaluate valuation spreads, and compare companies across closely related peer groups.
  • Deep understanding of Business Services business models, including recurring revenue, contract structures, customer retention, pricing power, labor intensity, utilization, roll-up strategies, and free cash flow conversion.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present a concise, investable thesis to senior investment leadership.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with the CIO, traders, risk professionals, and other Sector Specialists.
  • This position is full-time, in-office, in Dallas, Texas.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in finance, economics, accounting, or a related field.
  • CFA designation or other relevant professional certification.
  • Prior long/short, market-neutral, or relative value investing experience.
  • Strong track record of successful investment recommendations or differentiated sector calls.

Application Materials

Submissions should include a resume and a cover letter that clearly describe the coverage universe, investment process, and ability to generate differentiated relative-value ideas within Business Services.
