Position Description

The Superintendent is responsible for monitoring healthcare projects through the full lifecycle, with a strong focus on safety, quality, field leadership, schedule execution, documentation, and communication. This role works closely with the project manager/project team and the owner's team, and must be highly organized, proactive, and able to perform in a fast-paced environment.

Healthcare work often occurs in occupied, active environments. The Superintendent will lead field execution while maintaining high standards for:

  • Patient/staff safety, clean work zones, and orderly site logistics
  • Infection prevention expectations (e.g., dust control, containment, negative air where applicable)
  • Coordinating work windows, shutdowns, and sensitive operations with hospital/clinic stakeholders
  • Clear daily communication and documentation to support compliance, safety, and schedule performance


Key Responsibilities

Field Leadership, Planning & Schedule

  • Develop and maintain phasing plans, look-ahead schedules, and sequencing to support the construction process
  • Track project progress and provide regular schedule updates to the project team and stakeholders
  • Coordinate trade partners and construction activities to facilitate on-time project completion
  • Coordinate manpower needs and communicate staffing requirements to support schedule and milestones


Safety, Cleanliness & Quality

  • Organize and maintain a safe, clean, and orderly jobsite/work environment
  • Enforce site safety expectations, including required safety processes, orientations, and compliance
  • Monitor installed work for quality, enforce quality control plans, and address deficiencies quickly
  • In healthcare environments, maintain heightened cleanliness and coordination to minimize disruption


Communication & Stakeholder Management

  • Serve as a professional on-site liaison between BEAR and owners/stakeholders
  • Communicate field conflicts, constraints, and risk items early to the internal project team
  • Collaborate with internal teams, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, and building management to determine field needs and solve issues


Documentation & Controls

  • Maintain complete and accurate field documentation and reporting (daily reports, photo documentation, trade hours, delivery tracking, punch lists, etc.)
  • Manage RFIs/submittals coordination and maintain documentation to support internal and external project members
  • Understand and apply proper accounting phase codes and accurate time allocation
  • Utilize project documentation software and mobile tools as required


Materials, Equipment, and Site Logistics

  • Manage equipment and material needs, track stock and deliveries, and coordinate maintenance as required
  • Coordinate inspections with local jurisdictional authority and permit agencies as needed
  • Resolve on-site issues and emergencies quickly and effectively


Position Requirements

Qualifications

  • Prior experience as a construction Superintendent or similar field leadership role
  • Field experience, trade school, or college degree (Construction Management/Engineering preferred)
  • Strong working knowledge of jobsite safety, quality, and health guidelines
  • Ability to read and understand project documents (drawings, specs, submittals, schedules, etc.)
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and leadership skills; ability to lead and inspire teams
  • Proficiency with MS Office; comfort with mobile/documentation tools
  • OSHA 30


Work Schedule & Environment

  • This is a full-time field role supporting active projects.
  • Typical field hours are often aligned to project needs; BEAR has used 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM as a standard reference for field employees (or as mutually agreed), with flexibility for project priorities.
  • Work may require extended hours or weekends based on schedule and site constraints.
