We're seeking a Health, Safety and Environment Leader-Moderate Complexity to join our team specializing in Health and Safety for our Plainfield, IN location.

Responsibilities

To be successful in this role you will need the following:
  • Lead HSE Strategy and Risk Management: Serve as a trusted member of the Plant Leadership Team by identifying, assessing, and mitigating health, safety, and environmental risks while aligning HSE priorities with business objectives.
  • Drive Compliance and Operational Excellence: Ensure the effectiveness of the site's HSE Management System, maintain ISO certifications, lead audits and regulatory compliance efforts, and translate evolving requirements into actionable site improvements.
  • Champion a Proactive Safety Culture: Strengthen incident prevention through high-quality reporting, thorough investigations, root cause analysis, corrective actions, near-hit reporting, employee coaching, and leadership engagement across the organization.
  • Deliver Continuous Improvement and Sustainable Results: Lead strategic initiatives focused on machine safety, ergonomics, industrial hygiene, environmental sustainability, emergency preparedness, and risk reduction projects while using data and cross-functional partnerships to improve safety performance and reduce organizational risk.

Education, Licenses, Certifications:
College, university, or equivalent degree in Occupational Health, Safety or Environmental required. Professional certification in HSE-related field preferred.

Experience:
Significant relevant experience required, including management of health, safety and/or environmental ISO Standards required. 5-7 years of experience, 1-2 years management experience.

Qualifications

  • Serve as a key member of the Plant Leadership Team, influencing business decisions to ensure health, safety, and environmental risks are identified, assessed, and appropriately mitigated.
  • Drive excellence in incident and case management by ensuring robust reporting, investigation, root cause analysis, corrective action implementation, and organizational learning from incidents, near hits, and occupational health cases.
    • Drive the site's Health, Safety & Environmental Management System (HSEMS) and maintain all applicable HSE-related ISO certifications, ensuring ongoing compliance, successful internal and external audits, and continuous improvement of site HSE processes and performance.
  • Lead the site's HSE strategic roadmap, including execution of Road to Resilience initiatives, machine safety improvements, ergonomics programs, industrial hygiene monitoring, and environmental sustainability objectives.
  • Provide leadership for major risk assessment activities, including machine guarding evaluations, ergonomics assessments, material handling risk reviews, contractor safety reviews, and process safety initiatives.
  • Drive a culture of proactive reporting by improving the quality and quantity of near-hit, hazard identification, and safety observation reporting across all functions.
  • Facilitate cross-functional reviews of incidents, near hits, and audit findings to ensure robust root cause analysis, effective corrective actions, and sustainable risk reduction.
  • Partner with Engineering, Operations, Materials, Maintenance, and Quality teams to incorporate HSE requirements into process design, equipment procurement, facility modifications, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Establish and maintain site governance processes including HSE steering committees, management reviews, compliance audits, risk reviews, and leadership safety engagement activities.
  • Lead emergency preparedness and crisis management programs, including emergency response planning, drills, business continuity support, and coordination with local regulatory agencies and emergency responders.
  • Develop HSE capability across the organization by coaching leaders, supervisors, and employees on risk identification, compliance requirements, incident investigation, and safety leadership expectations.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and corporate requirements, translating them into site-specific action plans to ensure ongoing compliance and operational excellence.
  • Act as the primary site representative during regulatory inspections, corporate audits, customer assessments, and environmental agency interactions.
  • Analyze HSE performance trends and provide data-driven recommendations to the Plant Manager and leadership team to improve safety culture and reduce organizational risk.
  • Champion projects focused on reducing ergonomic exposure, improving material flow safety, eliminating manual handling risks, and increasing automation where practical to reduce employee exposure to hazards.
  • Own the site's HSE master project list and risk reduction portfolio, ensuring resources are focused on projects that provide the greatest reduction in employee risk while supporting operational, quality, and business objectives
