JOB SUMMARYResponsible for successful maintenance of patient medical records and organizational and administrative operations of the Medical Record/Health Information Management Department. Is responsible for ensuring medical record regulatory requirements are followed and serves as a resource for the facility in regards to medical record content. Responsible for ensuring the prompt completion, filing and retrieval of medical records.

QUALIFICATIONSDegree as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) from an accredited school.
Computer experience required in windows, spreadsheet and word processing.
Two or more years of previous hospital experience in health information management/medical record functions. Knowledge of DNV standards and state regulations for health information/medical record requirements. Ability to work with hospital management and physicians in an effort to ensure compliance to HIM policy and procedures.
Two years management, supervisory and leadership experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES- Establishes and enforces medical record policies and procedures necessary for effective and efficient processes.
- Provides leadership to department and to the hospital.
- Effectively oversees day to day operations of department.
- Develops appropriate relationships.
- Gives presentations to management and physicians.
- Successfully manages physician, employee, interdepartmental and patient satisfaction and/or engagement.
- Maintains clean and organized environment.
- Interacts positively with members of medical staff by promoting interaction.
- Assumes responsibility for a comprehensive departmental orientation program and training to ensure that standards are consistently being met.
- Maintains appropriate staffing to ensure prompt completion, filling and retrieval of medical record and delegates work effectively.
- Assumes the responsibility for ensuring and fulfilling the standards and criteria of licensing and accrediting agencies.
- Holds periodic staff meetings to assure coordination of efforts.
- Conducts periodic performance reviews on all staff.
- Represents the hospital in court cases involving subpoena of medical or clinical records.
- Executes suspension policy for delinquent medical records.
- Maintains and ensure patient confidentiality at all times.
- Attends committee; MEC/CQI and management meetings, as appropriate.
- Ensures compliance with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
- Applies yearly coding changes.
- Maintains necessary controls and appropriate reviews of medical coding to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Comply with facility Standards of Behavior and complete all required education assignments within the designated timeline.
