Full Job Description
About the role

Glean is searching for an experienced Product Design leader to develop and grow our product design team, and oversee the design of our product.

You will grow and manage a diverse group of design managers, product designers, content designers, and user researchers to create the best possible end user experience for Glean customers, and have the time of their careers while doing it. You'll lead by example as you facilitate cross-functional collaborations and identify opportunities for the design team to operate more strategically, holistically, and effectively. You'll work closely with our Head of Product, Product Engineering, Marketing, Data Science, and other function leaders as you establish a high bar for design execution and a vision for the future of our product.
You will
  • Lead and grow a team of world-class product designers, researchers, and content designers to consistently execute on company goals and deliver high-quality product to our customers, balancing urgency and keeping a high quality bar. You should be willing to roll up your sleeves and jump in as necessary to direct the work.
  • Refine and lead the standard for design processes at Glean.
  • Mentor and develop the skills, talents, and careers of the designers and design managers on your team, coaching them to success and impact, and establish clear standards for performance and quality.
  • Collaborate closely with leaders in Product and Engineering to ensure that product areas are both planning well and hitting their metrics. Be able to flexibly manage bandwidth as needs arise.
  • Craft a compelling long term design strategy and vision and work closely with other leaders to articulate Glean's product vision and strategy through design.
  • Build a thriving, collaborative, safe, and fun culture where designers can do high-quality work and lead in creating the future of AI at work for all knowledge workers in the world.
About You
  • 10+ years of experience successfully coaching and managing performance of teams in Product Design, Content Design or UX Writing, and UX Research. Preferably you have experience doing that at a high growth or later-stage tech company in B2B, including experience managing managers. You've worked at companies with very high design standards.
  • A genuine curiosity about AI and what this means for the future of work, design, interaction patterns, etc. You're passionate about AI applications and have tinkered around with them to develop a perspective on them.
  • A strong portfolio of product work showcasing exceptional visual and interaction design craft as done by yourself and/or teams you've led and influenced that have positively impacted the business.
  • Hands-on, collaborative, low-ego leader with a high level of ownership and drive, who can think big and dive deep while connecting the dots. You are comfortable juggling many responsibilities at the same time.
  • Experience sourcing, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding for your team, as well as spot promising design talent.
  • Experience with organizational planning and strong leadership experience managing lean teams with multiple priorities. Bonus if you have experience building distributed teams across time zones (e.g. Palo Alto and Bangalore)
  • Consistent track record of effectively managing people, developing talent on your teams, and fostering a healthy design culture for team members to succeed.
  • Mastery of the craft of design. You have a high product quality bar and a strong eye for visual and interaction design, and in-depth knowledge of human-centered design practices, research methodologies, and design tools. You map product design decisions back to user problems and build deep empathy and understanding for the end user.
  • Strong experience partnering with PM, Engineering, and Marketing to drive vision, strategy, and execution to ship impactful products in fast-paced, high growth startup
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills that leverage storytelling to drive alignment at different zoom levels and contexts to leadership, the design team, the company, and more.
  • Experience defining and influencing product strategy and an understanding and appreciation for the accurate application of data and metrics in product design
