Full Job Description
About the role

Events are about people. Our customers and prospects are giving us their time and it's our job to make that time worth it. Who welcomes them, who they meet, what they learn, whether they're comfortable and having a good time. Hospitality is at the core of this job.

We're looking for a Head of Field Marketing who sees themselves as a modern day patron of the communities we do business in. Someone who gets to know the people in those communities and invests in them. Who gives great ideas a room, brings interesting people together and creates space for relationships to grow.

That takes commercial instincts and the care of a great host. You understand how events help us build the business because you understand the people we're building it with. You'll own a program where every experience reflects that care, from a small technical workshop to a party with hundreds of guests.

What you'll do
  • Get to know our customers and prospects. Spend time with them. Understand what they're building, what they care about and who they want to meet. Use that to build a program they actually want to be part of.
  • Invest in the communities we do business in. Build relationships with local organizers, technical leaders and people bringing others together. Support what's already good and find places where Braintrust can contribute something useful.
  • Build the field marketing strategy. Decide where we show up, who we bring together and what we do for them. Make thoughtful bets across audiences, cities and formats with a clear reason for each.
  • Own the experience from invite to goodbye. The guest list, venue, programming, food, WiFi, merch and how someone is greeted when they walk in. Make sure every person delivering the event understands how we want our guests to feel.
  • Build with Sales. Know their accounts, territories and deals. Help them bring the right people together and build relationships that continue after the event. Own the plan for invitations and follow-up with them.
  • Bring partners into the program. Develop ideas with companies our audience cares about and give each partner a meaningful role. Make the whole experience feel considered and cohesive.
  • Own the budget, agencies and vendors. Choose people who care about their work. Set clear expectations, negotiate well and know when to spend more because it makes a meaningful difference to the guest.
  • Know what the program is doing for the business. Track the accounts and relationships we're building, the pipeline we're creating and the deals we're helping move. Use what you learn to decide what we do next.
  • Build the team and operating rhythm to grow. Make it possible to do more while keeping the care and quality that make the program good. Stay close enough to the work to know when something needs your attention.

Ideal candidate credentials
  • You're a host at heart. You notice the person who doesn't know anyone and make an introduction. You think about the room from the guest's perspective. Hospitality shows up in how you plan and how you treat people on the day.
  • You've built field marketing programs at a devtool or infrastructure company. You understand technical audiences and can explain how your programs helped the business. You know what makes an engineer want to spend an evening with us and what makes that evening useful to an executive.
  • You'll be extra successful if you've also been a corporate events producer. We hold our field events to the same bar as our biggest company events. Every venue is carefully selected, every detail is thought through, the WiFi works and the merch isn't trash. You care about all of this without someone having to ask.
  • You understand the commercial side. You can connect audience and program decisions to our goals. You work closely with Sales and have enough conviction to push back when a request needs a better approach.
  • You can lead and produce. You can build the strategy, manage a team and walk a venue with a production partner. You're comfortable making decisions and getting into the work when that's what it takes.
  • You hold people to a high bar. You give clear feedback and address issues early. Agencies and vendors should make the program better and you take responsibility for the work they deliver.

Benefits include
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Daily lunch, snacks, and beverages
  • Flexible time off
  • Competitive salary and equity
  • Wifi & cellphone stipend
