THE POSITION: On a day-to-day basis, this individual will be responsible for administrating and implementing database solutions while providing system operational support, administration, problem resolution, and perform software installations and upgrades on our database systems concentrating on Google Cloud Platform and other cloud-based solutions (up to 30%). The Database Administrator will be expected to exhibit strong troubleshooting techniques while striving to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction. Other duties also include monitoring performance and capacity on our database systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Our employees are tasked with delivering excellent business results through the efforts of their teams. These results are achieved by:
- Responsibility for all enterprise database technology deployed in the cloud including various versions of Microsoft SQL Server and other database platforms including features such as the core database engine, reporting, data loading and transformations, business intelligence, replication technologies and other modules. Perform configuration and maintenance of database platforms, including patching.
- Monitor database instances for performance, utilization, and capacity. Work with application teams when appropriate to address issues.
- Manage maintenance plans, backups, and automated jobs.
- Responsible for the database platform security model, including using Active Directory-integrated accounts in a multi-forest environment where appropriate.
- Responsible for query writing and optimization.
- Responsible for database schema design.
- Develop, administer, and optimize Google BigQuery datasets, tables, views, partitioning, clustering, permissions, scheduled queries, and data pipelines to support reporting, analytics, and operational workloads.
- Responsible for advising report writers and their deployment in various reporting solutions or writing reports when needed.
- Support BigQuery SQL development, performance tuning, cost optimization, data governance, access controls, and integration with Google Cloud services, business intelligence tools, and enterprise data platforms.
- Use typical database, cloud, monitoring, and DevOps tools such as Google Cloud Console, BigQuery, Cloud SQL, Cloud Storage, Cloud Monitoring, Cloud Logging, Dataflow, Dataproc, Looker, Tableau, SQL Server Management Studio, Visual Studio Code, Git, CI/CD release tools, PowerShell, Python, and ticketing or incident management platforms.
- Apply experience with AI agents and automation tools to improve database operations, including monitoring, incident triage, knowledge retrieval, documentation generation, operational workflows, and data-driven self-service capabilities.
- Responsible for performing traces and profiling to analyze and troubleshoot problems.
- Determine the best way to improve performance, whether through hardware adjustments, server configuration changes, or index and query changes.
- Understanding of software development methodologies, software development lifecycle management, and working in an Agile/SCRUM environment with software development teams, providing consultative advice on database design and query optimization, including indexes.
- Familiarity with DevOps tools for managing releases.
- Familiarity with code repository tools for managing SQL objects as code with version control.
- On-call support for after-hours issues required. Leverage automated alerting to be notified of issues as they happen. Tune alerts to reduce noise.
- Responds to incoming phone, email, or web-reported technical issues from internal users related to network and infrastructure, and assists in troubleshooting database issues as well as application issues for which the database may be a contributing factor.
- Identifies severity and impact and documents details in the Help Desk call tracking system.
- Performs database monitoring to ensure service level agreements are met and alerts appropriate IT staff and management of any downtime.
- Works in partnership with all IT teams to find solutions, and/or escalates issues to appropriate IT groups for resolution.
- Communicates status and updates to end users in a timely and consistent manner.
- Sets priorities for open issues and escalates issues to the correct department for resolution.
- Follows through with closure of user issues.
- Recreates problems in development environments for troubleshooting and resolution when needed.
- Creates and documents workarounds.
- Assist in training.

QualificationsMINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:The requirements listed below are representative of the experience, education, knowledge, skill and/or abilities required.
- 7+ years of experience in database administration in a cloud-based enterprise environment, preferably across multiple versions of cloud providers using multiple database platforms.
- Administrative knowledge of Active Directory and other forms of database security
- Scripting and automation experience
- Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated strong customer service and analytic skills
- Demonstrated ability to think through sets of complex problems, create and implement appropriate solutions
- Proven ability to establish and maintain effective professional working relationships
- Ability to think and work independently
- Ability to adapt and learn in a fast-paced, changing environment.
- Administrative experience with at least one of Azure, Google Cloud, AWS
- Experience using or supporting AI agents, copilots, or intelligent automation solutions for database administration, cloud operations, monitoring, troubleshooting, documentation, or analytics use cases.
- Linux experience a plus.
- Administration experience in backup technologies that can be used to back up various database platforms. Additional experience in Disaster Recovery technologies a plus.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:- 10+ Years of experience preferred spanning more than one environment
- MongoDB and other non-Microsoft SQL Server database technologies a plus
- Data Warehousing experience a plus
- Hands-on Google Cloud database administration experience, including BigQuery, Cloud SQL, Cloud Storage, Cloud Monitoring, Cloud Logging, IAM, performance tuning, cost optimization, and data governance.
- Experience using or supporting AI agents, copilots, or intelligent automation solutions to improve database administration, cloud operations, monitoring, incident triage, documentation, analytics, and self-service workflows.
- PowerShell scripting and automation experience a plus

Office: While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is frequently required to reach, grasp, stand and/or sit for long periods of time (up to 90% of the shift), walk, talk and hear; occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet, with frequent interruptions and multiple demands.
