Responsibilities - This position is responsible for the ongoing enhancement and maintenance of global corporate sanctions compliance programs with a focus on US, UK, EU, UN, and SG sanctions laws and regulations for ByteDance businesses; - Be the leading counsel in the Global Legal Compliance team to advise and counsel stakeholders on sanctions-related issues and provide thoughtful and practical solutions when navigating complex geo-political environments, taking into consideration stakeholder feedback with the ability to operate autonomously; - Conduct or partner with compliance team to conduct periodic legal compliance risk assessments to assess effectiveness of the sanction program, systems, identify gaps and develop remediation plans; - Ability to plan, execute, and deliver on multiple competing priorities including medium and long term projects across different stakeholders; - Maintain competency in evolving sanctions law and regulation trends and risks, and regulatory regimes that could impact the business; - Provide legal guidance and advice on how to improve and operationalize sanctions compliance screening and its mechanism; - Advise internal investigation relevant to compliance policies owned by the Global Legal Compliance team, and partner with internal investigation team to support internal investigations if needed; - Conduct internal compliance training and education programs in partnership with the other regional compliance counsel and cross functional stakeholders.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications - Law degree or Masters of Law, up-to-date qualifications to practice law in common law jurisdiction is required; - Possesses a deep understanding of the substance and nuances of laws in the sanctions areas, skillfully interpreting and applying legal concepts to effectively handle various legal matters, including in ambiguous situations; takes on a leadership role in addressing complex legal matters, where warranted, exhibiting a high level of autonomy and responsibility; considers both business and legal implications of advice with a well-attuned understanding of risk; - Strong oral and written communication skills; understands client needs, requirements, and key concerns; adapts communication style and approach to maximize impact across a range of audiences. - Possess the highest standard of ethics and a positive attitude in learning and willing to pick up new knowledge and skills. - Candidate must be able to demonstrate leadership skills in setting strategic goals, but also have a "roll up their sleeves" mentality in executing the work. - Maintains an appropriate degree of confidentiality. Preferred Qualifications - JD in the US is preferred - Proven combined compliance experience in a reputable international law firm, in-house with a multi-national company; technology and/or fintech sector experience preferred. - Candidates should also have sufficient knowledge of sanctions regulatory and compliance programs and have experience in the US and UK/EU markets is a strong plus. - Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while demonstrating flexibility, commitment to teamwork, and a willingness to change assignments meet clients' needs. Anticipates clients needs and delivers with timeliness, accurately sensing the urgency and sensitivity to the situation. - Ability to manage heavy workload volume and meet critical deadlines with little supervision. - Proactively identifies problems or issues and takes lead in resolving issues, and makes recommendations for necessary process improvements. - Demonstrates an in-depth understanding of the clients' business, industry and organization and shows support for delivery of the product, services and initiatives of the organization. - Demonstrates ability to redirect issues to appropriate resources. - Demonstrates creativity in finding solutions and uses good judgment in doing so. - Demonstrates ability to influence and enlist support.

The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $210600 - $366000 annually.
Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.
