Full Job Description

The Managing Director, Global Head of Market Intelligence, is the executive responsible for strategic direction, operating performance, and long-term value creation of ISS Market Intelligence.  The role is based in the New York City office and the successful candidate will lead the continued growth and strategic evolution of the business, strengthening its commercial performance, market position, product innovation, operational scalability, and long-term value creation. This executive will bring a disciplined, enterprise-level perspective to investment priorities, product and portfolio strategy, commercial execution, technology enablement, and organizational capability development.  

The Head of Market Intelligence must possess deep expertise in the U.S. market intelligence industry, as the majority of the business portfolio and day-to-day operational oversight is concentrated in the United States, including Discovery Data, U.S. Research, and Simfund. This role requires a strong understanding of the U.S. financial services ecosystem, including market structure, asset management and distribution channels, insurance and retirement product sales, the associated value chain, key customer segments, and the primary data sources that drive market intelligence solutions.

Reporting directly to the CEO, this leader will play a critical role in shaping the next phase of growth, innovation, and value creation for the business.  

Key Responsibilities

Business Leadership & P&L Ownership

  • Own the full financial performance of the Market Intelligence business, including revenue growth, profitability, operating leverage, and cash generation. 
  • Establish and execute short- and long-term business strategies that deliver sustainable growth and value creation. 
  • Drive rigorous performance management through financial, operational, commercial, and customer metrics. 
  • Prioritize investments and allocate resources toward the highest-value growth opportunities. 
  • Ensure effective governance, risk management, and operational execution across the business.  
  • Partner closely with ISS STOXX business units and departments including, technology, data operations, governance, sustainability, and indexes teams to identify opportunities for collaboration and value creation.

Strategy, Portfolio & Growth 

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive business strategy aligned with corporate objectives. 
  • Evaluate products, services, capabilities, and market opportunities to determine where to invest, scale, partner, and expand. 
  • Identify opportunities to enhance market relevance, customer value, business scalability, and long-term competitiveness. 
  • Lead strategic assessments related to partnerships, acquisitions, market expansion opportunities, and portfolio optimization.  
  • Maintain a disciplined focus on value creation, innovation, and sustainable competitive advantage.  

Market Leadership & Industry Insight 

  • Serve as a senior voice on industry trends, competitive dynamics, customer needs, regulatory developments, and emerging technologies. 
  • Regularly engage with C-suite executives across asset management, wealth management, insurance, and retirement markets to shape client strategy and identify emerging opportunities.
  • Develop forward-looking market assessments that inform business strategy, product innovation, and investment decisions. 
  • Ensure market and customer insights are translated into actionable growth opportunities. 
  • Strengthen the business's leadership position within the global financial markets ecosystem.  
  • Represent ISS Market Intelligence at industry events, conferences, client advisory boards, and executive forums, strengthening the organization's visibility and market influence.

Commercial Growth & Client Strategy 

  • Expand market penetration, client retention, and revenue growth across existing and adjacent markets. 
  • Drives the Sales, Product, Marketing and Research teams to work together to maximize commercial outcomes.
  • Identify new growth opportunities, customer segments, strategic partnerships, and monetization models. 
  • Enhance the business's reputation, thought leadership, and market credibility. 
  • Foster a customer-centric culture that anticipates evolving client needs and market opportunities.  
  • Build and maintain executive-level relationships with key clients, industry partners, and strategic accounts, serving as a trusted advisor and brand ambassador for ISS Market Intelligence.

Data, Products & Innovation 

  • Define and execute roadmap that brings our data assets together to create value for our clients leveraging technology, AI and analytics. 
  • Drive innovation across products, customer experiences, workflows, and business processes. 
  • Build scalable and agile operating models that support growth, innovation, and efficiency. 
  • Ensure technology investments align with client needs, market opportunities, and long-term business goals. 
  • Act as champion for the business to drive the required outcomes with the central technology and data operations teams. 

Organizational Leadership

  • Build and lead a high-performing global leadership team, developing a succession pipeline and talent strategy. 
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, collaboration, and customer focus. 
  • Develop organizational capabilities and leadership depth required to support strategic priorities. 
  • Align talent, resources, and investments with business objectives. 
  • Communicate a compelling vision and inspire teams to execute with excellence.  

Qualifications & Experience

Required

  • 15+ years of senior leadership experience with increasing business, commercial, and P&L responsibility. 
  • Demonstrated success leading a sizeable global business, business unit, or product portfolio. 
  • Experience within financial information services, data and analytics, SaaS, research, capital markets, risk, fintech, indices, or adjacent information businesses. 
  • Track record of delivering sustained revenue growth, profitability improvement, and operating leverage. 
  • Experience developing and executing business strategies in dynamic, competitive markets. 
  • Strong commercial leadership experience, including go-to-market strategy, pricing, customer growth, retention, and market expansion. 
  • Experience evaluating and managing investment priorities, product portfolios, and growth opportunities. 
  • Proven ability to build, lead, and develop high-performing global teams. 
  • Experience in post-merger integration and achieving synergies
  • Strong financial acumen, including capital allocation, investment evaluation, and value creation planning. 
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and executive communication skills. 
  • Experience working across multiple regions and cultures in a global environment. 

Preferred

  • Experience leading AI-enabled products, data-driven businesses, digital platforms, or technology-enabled services. 
  • Exposure to acquisitions, strategic partnerships, business integration, and portfolio management. 
  • Experience presenting to boards, investors, or executive leadership teams. 

Education

  • Bachelor's degree required. 
  • MBA or other advanced degree preferred. 
  • Additional executive education in strategy, finance, technology, AI, analytics, or business leadership is advantageous. 

Base salary: For New York City-based candidates, the expected annual base salary range for this role is $275,000 to $350,000.   Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and level of education. The role is bonus or sales incentive eligible.
