JOB DESCRIPTION

The Safety Specialist Supervisor – Process Safety Management (PSM) is responsible for helping ensure the company’s process safety programs are working effectively. This role leads audits and reviews of safety systems, risk management practices, and operational controls to confirm they are properly designed and being followed across the organization. The supervisor uses technical expertise and business knowledge to guide Process Safety audits, apply Global Assurance standards consistently, identify potential risks or gaps, and support ongoing improvements to the company’s overall safety performance and governance.

Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Lead safety audits to make sure company facilities and operations are following process safety rules and managing risks properly.
  • Review safety incidents, equipment failures, and industry or regulatory changes to identify potential safety concerns and adjust audit priorities as needed.
  • Check that important safety programs and procedures are working correctly, including equipment maintenance, operational procedures, contractor safety, and how changes to processes are managed.
  • Use data, reports, and trends to identify recurring safety issues and opportunities to improve overall safety performance.
  • Review audit results, clearly explain safety concerns, identify the root causes of problems, and recommend practical solutions to reduce the risk of serious incidents.
  • Meet with plant leadership, engineers, operations teams, and other departments to discuss safety risks, share audit findings, and support effective corrective actions.
  • Track corrective actions to make sure safety issues are properly fixed and escalate unresolved problems when necessary.
  • Help improve the company’s safety audit processes, tools, and standards to ensure consistent and effective safety evaluations across the organization.
  • Lead and mentor team members by providing guidance on safety systems, audits, and risk management while promoting teamwork and continuous improvement.
  • Act as a process safety expert by advising teams on safety risks, equipment reliability, hazard prevention, and industry best practices.
Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering or a related technical field.
  • ISO 45001 Auditor certification is preferred but not required.
  • At least 10 years of experience in health and safety roles.
  • At least 5 years of experience leading or supporting process safety programs, preferably in industries such as steel, oil and gas, mining, or chemicals.
  • Strong understanding of process safety standards, workplace safety systems, and industrial risk management.
  • Knowledge of ISO 45001 and other process safety frameworks.
  • Experience leading teams, coaching employees, and managing projects.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain complex safety issues to leadership teams.
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations professionally and work with teams across different departments and locations.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and ethical decision-making.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Fluent in English; additional languages are a plus.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
