Your role at GEI.

Responsible for the overall performance and daily operations of the Geotechnical and Construction Services Teams in GEI's newly merged Hayre, McElroy & Associates (HMA) Washington State offices, and indirect involvement in HMA's Hawaii and South Pacific Geotechnical practices. Responsible for the day-to-day management of the individuals assigned to the Geotechnical and Construction Services Teams and for supporting the Branch Manager and Regional Leadership (West Regional Manager, Vice Presidents, etc.) in achieving area, regional and companywide operational goals assigned. Make operational decisions in concert with the Branch Manager and Leadership that directly impact the Geotechnical and Construction Services Teams.

The Geotechnical and Construction Services Teams support GEI's expanded capabilities by providing practical, client-focused engineering design and construction services across the Pacific Northwest, Hawaii, South Pacific, and other markets GEI serves. The Team's work includes geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, inspection and testing, building code compliance, temporary erosion and sediment control, construction management, environmental support, laboratory testing, quality program management, and construction oversight for public- and private-sector clients, including municipal, transportation, military, infrastructure, and development projects.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties
  • Provide management, business development, technical, strategic planning, and financial leadership.
  • GEI operates strongly in the General Contractor support environment in the Pacific Northwest. Candidate should anticipate a significant portion of time in the field providing leadership to GEI personnel, fulfilling role of contract-specified licensed engineer on site as needed, technical guidance to contractors, and fast-paced design modifications/documents/submittal reviews.
  • Achieve operational objectives for growth, recruiting, staff engagement and retention, backlog, and profitability.
  • Coordinate, lead, support, and manage the Geotechnical and Construction Services Teams.
  • Lead and support the professional growth and development of staff.
  • Maintain a high level of employee engagement in support of employee retention.
  • Coordinate with and provide support to other Teams within GEI Operations.
  • Responsible for communication of administrative and operational information to the Geotechnical and Construction Services Teams.

Minimum Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in the geotechnical engineering consulting industry.
  • BS degree in civil engineering, an advanced degree in civil/geotechnical engineering is preferred.
  • Proven ability to develop and expand business opportunities with new clients, or at a minimum a strong interest and comfort in pursuing new client opportunities with a successful outcome under only minor support from leadership.

  • Ability to coach and mentor others and to build strong relationships.
  • Superior communication skills, both verbal and written.
