Full Job Description
The Role

Thornton Tomasetti is currently initiating a search for a Junior or Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our Orlando, Florida team. The candidate will be involved in business development and in projects with our Forensics Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges. The successful candidate will be responsible for contributing to the strategic growth of our forensic geotechnical practice and providing technical excellence delivering projects to our clients. Projects generally include investigations of existing buildings and design remedial repairs for deficient conditions. The investigations include failure cause and origin analysis, risk loss insurance, claims response, and litigation support.

Responsibilities
  • On-site inspections and investigations including surveying and documenting observations, photographing, and sketching.
  • Conduct geotechnical investigations and laboratory testing programs.
  • Researching the historic background of diverse structures, technical issues, and code issues.
  • Organizes field data to facilitate analysis and problem-solving.
  • Perform geotechnical analyses such as but not limited to bearing capacity, slope stability analysis, and settlement analysis.
  • Provide geotechnical support during construction.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations that explain research and findings to improve, prevent, control, restore, or address design and/or construction issues or problems.
  • Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, accurate reports, sketches, calculations, and illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of data, findings, or analyses.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.


Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or geotechnical engineering. Master's or PhD in geotechnical engineering is preferred.
  • Good understanding and knowledge of geotechnical engineering and related disciplines.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills (ability to communicate effectively with clients, other disciplines, managers, and other staff).
  • Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with a team.
  • Ability and willingness to travel within the USA and internationally.
  • A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations is preferred.
