Geotechnical Engineer

Alamos Gold's Young-Davidson is a low-cost, long-life operation and one of Canada's largest underground gold mines. It is located near the town of Matachewan centrally located between Timmins, Kirkland Lake, North Bay and Sudbury, Ontario. The 2020 completion of a highly automated, lower mine expansion has resulted in Young-Davidson increasing production and generating strong free cash flow. With a large Mineral Reserve base, it will serve as Alamos' foundation for growth for many years to come. Role Overview

As a Geotechnical Engineer, you will play a key role in maintaining and enhancing the safety and stability of underground mining operations at the Young-Davidson Mine. Reporting to the Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you will be responsible for the implementation and management of the Ground Control Management Program (GCMP).

Working closely with Technical Services, Mine Operations, and Planning teams, you will provide geotechnical expertise to support mine design, ground support strategies, operational safety, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Geotechnical Engineering: Collect, analyze, and interpret geotechnical data to support mine design and ground support decisions.
  • Mine Planning Support: Review stope and pillar design criteria to ensure geotechnical considerations are incorporated into mine plans.
  • Ground Monitoring: Monitor ground response to mining activities and rehabilitation programs to identify and mitigate geotechnical risks.
  • Seismic Analysis: Monitor and interpret micro seismic system data to support operational safety and post-blast re-entry assessments.
  • Training & Compliance: Conduct ground control assessments and training activities with underground personnel while supporting audit, review, and quality assurance programs.


What You Bring to the Table

  • Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical, Geological, or Mining Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Postgraduate degree in Rock Mechanics is considered an asset.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation, or eligibility for registration with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
  • Minimum two years of experience in underground mining operations with a focus on ground control.

Working Conditions

  • Schedule: 7 days on, 7 days off rotation.

Salary Range: CAD$98,600 - $147,900

The expected salary range for this role is intended to support transparency and informed decision making. Final compensation will be based on skills, experience and internal equity.
