SummaryThe
Generation Engineer applies in-depth technical, power plant knowledge and expertise to the development of complex, multi-disciplinary engineering, and construction projects for implementation under the Capital Projects program utilizing 3rd party engineering and construction services. The Engineer works with power plant personnel and engineers to examine system and component health problems and determine if a project is needed to maintain the reliability of system(s) and component(s). With input from plant and engineering stakeholders, the Engineer develops the scope, cost, schedule, risk matrix, and justification for large to small scale Generation projects for annual presentation of the Generation (non-nuclear) Capital Budget and 10-year LRF.
Key Responsibilities:Technical Engineering & Planning: Conceptualize design of plant retrofit projects to correct current plant system and component issues. This includes developing scopes, schedules, and costs of capital projects for yearly budget presentation.
Cross Functional Collaboration: Work within interdisciplinary teams, including operations, maintenance and planning, aligning project objectives and technical requirements. Interface with Resource Planning and Marketing to justify capital project retrofits through economic analysis and presentation to management.
Engineering Analysis & Problem Solving: Apply advanced engineering methods and analysis to assess system and component performance, address operational challenges, and drive decision making.
Strategic Planning: Create ten-year long-range forecast for critical systems and components throughout the APS Generation fleet.
Minimum RequirementsEngineer II- A four-year Bachelors degree in an engineering discipline or related applied science discipline (see approved list) from an ABET accredited institution, an International Engineering Alliance (IEA) recognized institution or an ABET Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA)
- Plus two (2) years working experience in Engineering-related positions.
Engineer III - A four-year Bachelors degree in an engineering discipline or related applied science discipline (see approved list) from an ABET accredited institution, an International Engineering Alliance (IEA) recognized institution or an ABET Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA)
- Plus five (5) years working experience in Engineering-related positions.
Engineer Senior- A four-year Bachelors degree in an engineering discipline or related applied science discipline (see approved list) from an ABET accredited institution, an International Engineering Alliance (IEA) recognized institution or an ABET Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA)
- Plus eight (8) years working experience in Engineering-related positions.
Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications: - Electrical Engineering Bachelor of Science degree
- Experience in an industrial process or utility environment
- Professional Engineer designation
- Background in designing and constructing of electrical systems and/or components for use in industry or retrofitting of electrical systems and/or components
- In-depth understanding of construction, operating and engineering practices; safety rules and company policies
Approved degrees: Materials Science/Metallurgy, Physics, Chemistry, Nuclear, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Electronics, Computer Science, Environmental, Chemical, Structural. (A four-year bachelor of Engineering Technology degree is not considered an automatic equivalent for a B.S. degree in Engineering. A review of the degree program curriculum must be completed by Engineering department management.)
Major Accountabilities- Present Engineering recommendations and drive decisions that have a moderate to high effect on the overall Generation performance.
- Influence long term Generation goals and objectives through development of projects.
- Develop engineering expertise in one or more areas, with a depth of knowledge in related field or a wide breadth of engineering knowledge in multiple fields.
- Contacts internal customers and various levels of engineering and plant management to obtain or present technical data. Presents the results of designs, feasibility studies or varying alternatives to subordinates, colleagues, management, and customers in support of solving problems and driving decisions.
- Define individual goals. Has capability to work within defined processes, solving problems with stakeholder engagement and minimal direction. Work is reviewed from a long-term perspective, to ensure alignment with organization strategic vision.
- Establishes most effective solution to Generation problems. Sought out for solutions that are acted on as a final technical basis for problems identified by Generation plants.
- Develops and applies technical solutions which require original and creative approaches. Provides unique solutions and applications to a broad range of technical problems.
- Plans, coordinates, sets priorities, and applies resources to meet with applicable stakeholders and develop low to high complexity projects and/or processes.
- Takes initiative to eliminate barriers and uses resources to ensure desired results.
- Independently reviews complex-engineering analyses, prepares project scopes, specifications, cost estimates, evaluations, studies, technical reviews, investigations and verifications.
- Prepares, checks and reviews non-standard analysis, evaluations, and investigations prepared by others.
- Coordinates, administers, and provides technical direction to less experienced engineers and may research new developments and technologies, aligning the strategic vision of the company with planned future projects.
- Identifies potential schedule or quality problems and initiates corrective action.
- Integrates the many interrelated elements of complex projects that are broad in scope, require considerations not previously encountered and requires interpretation and/or modification to Generation plants. Complies with design, regulatory, operating and maintenance requirements.
- Monitor on-going projects to capture lessons learned for future project development and recommends modifications to increase operating and process efficiency
Hybrid: Employees in hybrid roles work both in their home offices (virtually) and alongside their colleagues (in person).
In order for employees to build strong relationships and to promote meaningful in-person interactions, hybrid employees are expected to work about 40% of their time in-person at an APS or other (non-home office) location.
- Employees are expected to reside in Arizona (or New Mexico for Four Corners-based employees).
- Working from a home office requires adequate technology and an appropriate ergonomic set up.
- Role types are subject to change based on business need.
