Overview

The General Securities Principal is responsible for helping ensure compliance with FINRA, SEC, and other applicable regulatory requirements while promoting sound sales practices, effective controls, and a strong culture of compliance. Supervises securities compliance, and risk management activities for our registered representatives and investment-related operations.

The candidate will bring hands-on securities industry experience, the ability to identify, escalate, and help resolve regulatory, trading, and sales practice concerns. Works collaboratively with business and compliance partners while maintaining high standards of integrity, documentation, and regulatory accountability.

The General Securities Principal is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the firm and the securities markets.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with FINRA, SEC, and other applicable securities regulations.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain written supervisory procedures and internal controls.
  • Oversee sales practices, trading activity, client interactions, and supervisory reviews for registered representatives.
  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with the firm's operations.
  • Monitor for suspicious activity and report it to the appropriate authorities.
  • Review alerts, blotters, new accounts, orders, correspondence, and other activity to identify potential regulatory or sales practice concerns.
  • Respond to regulatory inquiries and audits.
  • Conduct or support compliance training, branch reviews, inspections, audits, and regulatory responses.
  • Partner with Ocean Financial Services and Ocean Bank Compliance teams to strengthen supervisory practices and mitigate operational and regulatory risk.


This position is for Ocean Financial Services (OFS), a subsidiary of Ocean Bank.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

Requirements
  1. An Associate's degree is required.
  2. Five (5) years of experience in the securities industry.
  3. Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a supervisory role is required.


Skills and Competencies
  1. Must have a strong understanding of securities regulations and compliance procedures.
  2. Must have a deep understanding of Securities Regulations, this includes FINRA rules, SEC regulations, and other relevant laws.
  3. Must have the ability to interpret and implement compliance procedures.
  4. Must have experience in performing risk assessments.
  5. Knowledge of Securities Products and understanding their associated risks.
  6. Proficiency in trading and market operations.
  7. Must have the ability to effectively manage teams and foster a culture of compliance.
  8. Thorough understanding of financial markets, investment products, and trading practices.
  9. Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to regulatory compliance.
  10. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  11. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.


Preferences
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, business, economics, or a related field.


Licenses
  • FINRA Series 24 (General Securities Principal) or Series 9 &10 and 63 are mandatory.
  • Other licenses, such as Series 4, , 65, and/or 66, are highly preferred.
