Position Overview

Central Maine Healthcare is seeking an experienced, collaborative Gastroenterologist to serve as Medical Director of Gastroenterology. The Medical Director will provide clinical and administrative leadership for the hospitals gastroenterology program, with responsibility for advancing high-quality patient care, physician engagement, operational excellence, and program growth.

The ideal candidate is a respected physician leader who is committed to clinical excellence, multidisciplinary collaboration, physician development, and improving access and outcomes for patients requiring gastrointestinal services.

Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and clinical oversight for the Gastroenterology service line.
  • Promote high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centered gastroenterology care.
  • Recruit, retain, mentor, and develop gastroenterologists and advanced practice providers.
  • Develop and implement a strategic plan to improve access, quality, efficiency, and service line growth.
  • Partner with hospital and service-line leadership to optimize staffing, scheduling, clinic operations, procedure room utilization, and patient flow.
  • Monitor clinical outcomes, patient experience, access, productivity, and other key performance indicators.
  • Collaborate with hospital leadership on physician recruitment and succession planning.
  • Identify opportunities to expand access to GI services and reduce patient wait times.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and applicable professional standards.
Qualifications
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO).
  • Board certified or board eligible in Gastroenterology.
  • Eligible for or currently holding an unrestricted medical license in Maine.
  • Eligible for hospital medical staff privileges.
  • Minimum of5 years of clinical gastroenterology experiencepreferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a hospital, medical group, department, or service line preferred.
  • Strong understanding of hospital operations, quality improvement, physician practice management, and healthcare delivery.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through collaboration and build consensus among physicians and multidisciplinary teams.
Pay Transparency

Central Maine Medical Center offers competitive compensation and a reasonable compensation estimate for this role is $720,000 to $810,000. The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, in which a wide range of factors will be considered, including but not limited to, skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials and licensure.
