Tenure faculty (regardless of rank) - persons with the titles of professor, associate professor, assistant professor and instructor who serve on appointments totaling 50% or more service to the university and who are eligible for tenure or who have obtained tenure. Duties and responsibilities are assigned in accordance with the workload guidelines laid out in the pattern of administration of each faculty member9s tenure initiation unit (TIU) and, as appropriate, regional campus; obligations will include research, service and/or teaching or clinical practice. These faculty will have earned doctorate or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study or possession of equivalent experience.

Position Overview
The Department of Veterinary Preventive Medicine at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for two 9-month tenure track faculty positionsat theexpectedrank of Assistant Professorwithresponsibility for research, teaching, and outreach related to infectious diseasesof food animalsand/or poultry.Applicants with infectious disease experience that crosses a full range of animal populations are highly desired.Ideally,oneof thesepositionswill emphasize infectious diseases oflivestock,and the second will emphasize infectious diseases ofpoultry.Thesepositions arepart of a larger hiring effort within the College of Veterinary Medicine to support the Protect OHIO initiative (https://vet.osu.edu/about/Protect-OHIO).
The successful applicants will provide compellingevidence of their potential to develop nationally recognizedscholarlyresearch programs that address the prevention and control of infectious diseases relevant to animal agricultural constituentsin Ohio.As research intensive positions,thesefacultymemberswill be expected to activelyseekfederal and other extramuralfunding,andtoincorporate graduate student training into their research programs.Teaching responsibilities will include providing instruction toprofessional DVMand graduate students on topics that may include livestock and/or poultry production systems, preventive medicine, animal welfare, disease diagnosis, prevention and control,veterinary public health, and food safety.Although there is no formal Extension appointment with this position, thesefaculty memberswill be expectedtoserve as infectious diseaseoutreachexpert resourcesfor internal and external constituent groups,andtocommunicate with stakeholders regularly, includinglivestock or poultry producers, regulatory agencies, and the academic community.
Performance Objectives
Research Objectives:
Create anationally recognizedindependent and collaborativescholarly research program addressingprevention and control of infectious diseases relevant to food animal production in Ohio.
Actively seek and regularly receive extramural supportofresearch,including federal funding.
Effectivelyincorporate graduate student traininginto researchina mannerthat allowstrainees tocompleteComparative Biomedical Sciencesdegree programsin a timely manner.
Routinelyproducerecognized scholarlyoutputs,includingresearchmanuscripts published inappropriatepeer-reviewedscientificjournals.
Teaching Objectives:
Deliver high-quality instruction on food animal infectious diseases, livestock and poultry production systems, and preventive medicine forprofessional DVMand graduate students.
Mentor graduate andprofessional DVMstudentswithinterest infood animal infectious diseases.
Outreach Objectives:
Support livestock and poultry health and disease preventionin Ohioby building andmaintainingpartnerships with producers, private veterinary practitioners, diagnostic laboratories, other academic colleagues, and regulatory agencies.
Education and Experience Requirements
Required:
PhD in a field relevant tofoodanimaland/or poultryinfectious diseases.
Experiencesuccessfully performing researchinfood animaland/or poultryinfectious diseases.
Evidence of, or strong potential for, securing extramural research funding.
Strong communicationskills.
Ability to contribute to a positive and collaborative work environment.
Desired:
Both aDVM(or equivalent)and a PhDor other advanced trainingin a field relevant to food animal and/or poultry infectious diseases.
Board certification ina relevantAVMA recognizedveterinary specialty (e.g., ACVPM, ACZM, ACVIM, ABVP, AAAP, etc.).
Experienceteachingstudentsfoodanimal infectious disease topics.
Experience with outreachto animal agriculture constituents.
Demonstrated familiarity withNorth Americanfood animal production systems.
