TSC is seeking a Firmware Design Engineer to design, implement, and test FPGA-based digital systems and signal processing algorithms for advanced RF sensors. This position supports our Radar & Precision Weapons Development (RPWD) organization, located in Huntsville, AL. This engineer will work as part of a multidisciplinary team with systems, electrical hardware, and software engineers across various RF sensor programs.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with the architecture, design, implementation, and integration of FPGA-based firmware
- Translate system and signal-processing requirements into digital hardware and FPGA implementations
- Work with systems, hardware, software, and test engineers to troubleshoot design issues at the simulation, board, and system levels
- Contribute to design reviews and engineering documentation, including design description documents, user's manuals, and interface control documents, to communicate firmware designs features to a relevant audience
- Develop test software, scripts, and procedures to verify FPGA functionality and support laboratory testing
- Follow established processes for source control, configuration management, peer review, and defect tracking
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or related technical degrees
- 0-5 years of experience developing and implementing firmware designs
- Familiarity with at least one hardware description language, such as VHDL or Verilog
- Basic understanding of digital design concepts, including synchronous logic, finite-state machines, pipelining, clock domains, reset strategies, and timing.
- Familiarity with FPGAs and FPGA design development
- Experience with software configuration management tools
- Ability to use engineering analysis or scripting tools such as MATLAB, Python, or equivalent software.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance
- U.S. Citizenship required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with AMD/Xilinx FPGA & SoC devices and the Vivado Design Suite.
- Experience with developing support firmware for hands on hardware debug and test
- Experience developing high-speed digital architectures
- Experience in writing embedded software
- Familiarity with the Git version control system
- Experience with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, signal generators
