The opportunityEY's FSO tax practice provides comprehensive and specialized tax assistance tailored to the unique needs of the asset management industry. You would join our tax professionals who are knowledgeable and experienced with varied and specialized facets of hedge fund, private equity fund and mutual fund taxation, including fund and organizational structuring, tax minimization planning, on-call advice, and tax compliance.
As a Tax Compliance Manager, you will play a pivotal role in managing and implementing tax compliance strategies for our clients. You will provide comprehensive support in tax compliance and reporting, including tax provision, direct and indirect tax returns preparation, and tax reform calculations, all while leveraging standardized processes and leading technology. Your efforts will focus on streamlining and optimizing compliance and reporting processes to align with business strategy, increase efficiency, and promote transparency. Additionally, you will encourage the development of governance, risk, and compliance frameworks, and help shape operating models that support alignment with governing tax regulations and business objectives.
In this Manager role within our Wealth & Asset Management Tax practice, you will lead tax compliance and advisory engagements for hedge fund, private equity, and mutual fund clients. You will address complex federal, international, state, and local tax issues and implement tax strategies aligned with client objectives. Responsibilities include reviewing securities analyses, making tax adjustments, overseeing the production of K-1s and partnership returns, and evaluating partnership agreements and private placement memorandums for tax implications.

Your key responsibilitiesIn this role, you will be responsible for the effective management and delivery of one or more processes, solutions, or projects, ensuring a strong focus on quality and effective risk management. You will drive continuous process improvement, identify innovative solutions through research and analysis, and apply your expertise to guide others and recommend quality solutions. The position presents the challenge of leading workstream delivery, tracking project status, and managing engagement economics, all while actively participating in client working sessions and leading workstreams from planning through closure. You'll learn to navigate complex tax environments, develop solutions to intricate problems, and recommend changes to policies and procedures that impact your team and potentially the broader business function.

- Solid technical knowledge, including the ability to review partnership book/tax allocations involving incentive fee reallocations, side pockets, partnership interest transfers, and fill-up/down allocations.

- Ability to analyze trading reports for tax character and book-to-tax differences, including wash sales, constructive sales, straddles, and other securities-related issues.

- Able to identify key tax technical issues and raise appropriate questions before work is submitted for partner or senior manager review, consulting with others as necessary.

To qualify for the role, you must have- Bachelor's degree required (4-year degree)
- Typically, no less than 4 - 6 years relevant experience
- Be a licensed attorney or CPA
- Familiarity with the financial services industry gained through direct involvement with managed investment vehicles
- Broad exposure to federal income taxation and exposure to state and local tax
- Demonstrated expertise in tax compliance and reporting requirements.
- Strong awareness of finance compliance and regulation.
- Understanding of global compliance requirements.
- Ability to assess tax legislation and its impact.
- Experience with tax reform calculations.
- Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation.
- Experience with tax technology solutions.
- Understanding of tax accounting and tax provisions.

- We offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package where you'll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to the business. The base salary range for this job in all geographic locations in the US is $116,200 to $212,900. The base salary range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) is $139,400 to $242,000. Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography. In addition, our Total Rewards package includes medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, and a wide range of paid time off options.
