Full Job Description
Field Engineer

Contingent-Hire Notice: This is a contingent-hire opportunity subject to final program authorization, funding, and confirmation of the anticipated staffing requirement. Any employment offer will depend on those conditions being satisfied.

Description of specific duties in a typical workday for this position:

The Field Engineer will install, integrate, test, and support mission-critical Voice Switching and Conferencing systems for FAA customers. This is a hands-on role performed primarily at customer locations across the United States. Installations are conducted on site at customer facilities and typically run one to two weeks in length per site.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct site surveys and identify installation requirements.
  • Install, configure, and integrate communications hardware and software at customer sites.
  • Test, troubleshoot, repair, and support system cutovers.
  • Coordinate field activities with customers, subcontractors, and engineering teams.
  • Complete required installation, configuration, and test documentation.
  • Communicate project status and technical issues to the appropriate team members.


Requirements (Years of experience, Education, Certifications):

Candidates must meet or exceed the following minimum qualifications:
  • Three to five years of telecommunications, communications systems, field engineering, or similar technical experience.
  • Associate degree in a related technical discipline or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Hands-on experience installing, integrating, testing, or troubleshooting hardware and software systems.
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking and the ability to read technical drawings and installation documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and communicate effectively at customer sites.
  • Ability to travel up to 80%, work occasional nights or weekends, and obtain FAA-required suitability and facility access.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an FAA security clearance, including the required suitability determination, background investigation, and facility access credentials for work within the National Airspace System (NAS).
  • Demonstrated ability to think outside the box at an engineering level, developing sound solutions to unanticipated field conditions, and a willingness to go the additional mile to complete the installation and satisfy the customer.


Nice to Have (skills that are not required, but nice to have):
  • FAA National Airspace System experience
  • Air traffic control, voice-switching, Frequentis VCS, or similar communications-system experience
  • VMware, virtualization, or fiber-optic experience
  • Network certification, such as CompTIA Network+ or Cisco CCNA
  • Military communications or federal customer experience
