Major Accountabilities1. Performs the most complex fiber engineering assignments and serves as a senior technical resource for enterprise fiber infrastructure.
2. Leads fiber route planning, architecture, detailed design, capacity analysis, resiliency planning, implementation, and lifecycle support.
3. Develops and reviews engineering packages, drawings, route maps, splice plans, bills of material, scopes, specifications, cost estimates, and construction requirements.
4. Leads technical reviews and validates design quality, constructability, standards compliance, route diversity, available capacity, and operational readiness.
5. Coordinates fiber projects with internal stakeholders, utilities, carriers, contractors, permitting agencies, project managers, and field personnel.
6. Provides engineering support during construction, resolves field conflicts, reviews changes, verifies testing and acceptance results, and ensures accurate as-built and asset records.
7. Applies advanced fiber engineering knowledge to improve safety, reliability, resiliency, capacity, maintainability, cycle time, cost effectiveness, and design consistency.
8. Evaluates emerging fiber technologies, construction methods, materials, monitoring capabilities, and design tools and recommends appropriate adoption.
9. Develops and maintains fiber engineering standards, specifications, procedures, templates, and quality-control practices.
10. Provides technical guidance, peer review, coaching, and training to engineers, designers, technicians, project teams, and contractors.
11. Leads major or complex fiber projects across the enterprise, including work planning, risk identification, stakeholder coordination, technical decision-making, delegation, and review of engineering deliverables.
Key Level Differentiators:Works to achieve operational and project targets with significant impact on fiber reliability, capacity, resiliency, customer commitments, and departmental results.
Independently develops and implements complex fiber engineering projects and assignments from concept through construction closeout.
Analyzes and resolves multidimensional fiber design, construction, capacity, route, permitting, and operational problems using broad technical experience and cross-functional relationships.
Exercises substantial independent judgment within established standards and escalates decisions with major business, safety, regulatory, cost, or operational impact.
Hybrid: Employees in hybrid roles work both in their home offices (virtually) and alongside their colleagues (in person).
In order for employees to build strong relationships and to promote meaningful in-person interactions, hybrid employees are expected to work about 40% of their time in-person at an APS or other (non-home office) location.
- Employees are expected to reside in Arizona (or New Mexico for Four Corners-based employees).
- Working from a home office requires adequate technology and an appropriate ergonomic set up.
- Role types are subject to change based on business need.
