Position Summary:The HVAC/R Manager is responsible for leading and managing the HVAC/R service operation across the organization, ensuring that heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, and related equipment are maintained, repaired, and installed safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively.
This role provides leadership to HVAC/R technicians, supervisors, and service partners while overseeing daily operations, service performance, preventive maintenance, emergency response, equipment reliability, and capital projects. The manager is accountable for maintaining high service levels while balancing operational priorities, labor resources, vendor relationships, and budget requirements.
The manager is expected to use experience, technical knowledge, data, and sound judgment to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and develop strategies that improve service quality, equipment reliability, technician productivity, and overall operational efficiency.
Responsibilities:1. Lead and manage the day-to-day HVAC/R service operation in a 24x7 environment.
2. Provide technical leadership and direction to HVAC/R technicians and supervisors.
3. Schedule and assign HVAC/R work based on technician skill level, geography, workload, equipment requirements, and established service priorities.
4. Monitor service performance, response times, completion rates, equipment downtime, labor efficiency, and other key performance indicators.
5. Oversee preventive maintenance programs for HVAC/R equipment and identify opportunities to reduce equipment failures and emergency service calls.
6. Review complex equipment failures and provide technical guidance to ensure proper diagnosis and cost-effective repairs.
7. Evaluate equipment replacement recommendations and determine when repair, refurbishment, or replacement provides the best overall value.
8. Support the planning and execution of HVAC/R installations, equipment replacements, renovations, and capital projects.
9. Develop and implement technical training programs to improve technician capabilities and maintain required certifications.
10. Review work orders for completeness, accuracy, proper diagnosis, parts usage, labor, and billing requirements.
11. Review and approve payroll and employee timekeeping as assigned.
12. Conduct employee evaluations, provide regular performance feedback, and establish development plans for team members.
13. Perform other duties as assigned.
Working Relationships:Operations, Facilities, Construction, Procurement, Facilities Managers, Regional Managers, District Managers, Coordinators, Dispatchers, and other company departments.
Requirements:Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Education: Associate's degree in HVAC/R, mechanical systems, facilities management, business, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum Experience: 8+ years of technical experience in HVAC/R, refrigeration, commercial HVAC, or a related trade. Strong working knowledge of commercial HVAC/R systems, refrigeration equipment, controls, and related equipment. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Preferred Experience: 5+ years of HVAC/R supervisory or management experience. Experience managing a multi-location or geographically dispersed service organization. Experience managing preventive maintenance programs. Experience with budgeting, cost management, and performance reporting
Licenses/Certifications:- Valid driver's license.
- EPA Section 608 certification.
- Additional HVAC/R certifications are preferred.
- Other licenses or certifications as required by applicable state or local regulations

Other Requirements:Travel: Travel as needed to support company locations, projects, training, vendors, and service operations. Must have a clean driving record.
Hours & Conditions: Ability to work extended hours, weekends, holidays, and participate in emergency/on-call support as necessary.
Physical Requirements: Ability to maneuver and regularly lift and or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Ability to stand/walk 8 hours a day; reach overhead, bend, squat, twist, reach, grasp and grip and work in cooler (cold temperatures). The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
