Position Summary:The Category Finance Manager is responsible for leading category financials and the P&L. They will own the category's budgeting, forecasting and performance analysis in the US business, driving sustainable and profitable growth.
This role will partner closely with category managers to create strategic plans, develop growth initiatives and provide greater visibility of category performance to leadership. The role will also partner with operations finance, revenue management, accounting and FP&A.
This is a high-impact commercial role that combines the analytical rigor of finance with the strategic mindset of a business partner. This role requires strong commercial and financial acumen, cross-functional influence, and the ability to translate data into clear actions that drive measurable revenue and margin outcomes.
Responsibilities:1. Own the category financials and full P&L, leading commercial analysis, financial planning, budgeting, forecasting and reporting for the entire category, translating results into strategic decisions that sustain growth.
2. Build and maintain financial and scenario models that provide visibility of category performance across brand, region and sub-category.
3. Lead the commercial analysis of the category through price/volume/mix analysis in conjunction with margin and gross profit analysis across brands, regions and SKUs.
4. Evaluate pricing and promotional effectiveness to quantify the impact of price changes and promotions on category performance, unit volume, loyalty and attachment rate.
5. Model and evaluate the effectiveness of vendor rebates, allowances and trade spend, ensuring deals are commercially beneficial to the business and effectively captured in the P&L.
6. Create business performance reviews and cases for leadership to display financial performance of the category, category trends, growth levers and competitor/industry trends.
7. Act as a business partner to category managers throughout planning cycles, business reviews, CAPEX investments and range reviews, providing clear financial insight and recommendations before decisions are made.
8. Develop and own dashboards and automated reporting tools that provide category managers with faster visibility of category performance, moving reporting out of Excel spreadsheets and into visual dashboards.
Working Relationships: Category Finance Managers work most closely with the category marketing teams, accounting, revenue management, operational finance, FP&A and procurement. The role will also work with other functional areas such as operations and IT as needed.
Requirements:Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics, or a related field.
Preferred Education: MBA postgraduate qualifications, with a focus in business and finance, are a bonus but not a requirement.
Minimum Experience: 5+ years' progressive experience in finance, revenue management, commercial strategy, analytics, or related roles.
Preferred Experience: Experience at other major retail, consumer goods, or multi-site environment. Alternatively, experience in consulting with a focus on consumer goods or commodities. Experience and track record driving commercial analysis and category growth through analytics and reporting tools as well as experience with forecasting, closing and budgeting.
Licenses/Certifications: CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) designation is a bonus but not required. Candidates with equivalent demonstrated expertise and commercial impact will be considered equally.
Technical Skills:- Advanced commercial modeling across PVM, pricing, promotions, mix, margin, and elasticity.
- Power BI and data visualization expertise, including executive dashboard development.
- Experience integrating financial, POS, loyalty, and commercial data sources.
- Business case development, scenario modeling, and investment analysis.
- Strong analytical skills leveraging sales and financial data to drive insights.
- Automated reporting and decision-support tool design and implementation.
