Overview:The Fabrication Operations Manager leads all sheet metal fabrication, welding, and finishing operations, directing strategy and execution to ensure products are manufactured safely, efficiently, on schedule, and to the highest quality standards. This role oversees the production process, from CNC laser cutting, CNC punching, and press brake forming through manual and robotic welding, pretreatment (including phosphate conversion coating), and powder coating application and curing.
The Fabrication Operations Manager leads and develops fabrication, welding, and finishing personnel. The role also owns, equipment utilization and capital planning, CNC and robotic programming standards, quality assurance, and preventive maintenance priorities. The Manager champions continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing and related methodologies to reduce cost, improve throughput, and raise first-pass yield, all in support of company objectives for cost, delivery, and customer satisfaction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.Production Management- Direct and supervise daily Fabrication operations.
- Plan and coordinate production schedules to meet customer and project deadlines within the area.
- Ensure products meet engineering specifications, customer requirements, and quality standards.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Production teams to resolve manufacturing issues.
- Implement corrective actions and preventative measures to reduce defects and rework.
- Identify and resolve production bottlenecks and scheduling conflicts.
- Analyze production metrics and identify opportunities for improvement and to reduce production costs.
- Implement lean manufacturing and process improvement initiatives.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance activities.
- Recommend equipment purchases, upgrades, and repairs.
- Maintain a safe working environment and enforce safety polices and procedures.
Leadership- Lead, coach, train, and develop fabrication personnel.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback.
- Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Recruit, interview, and onboard fabrication and painting employees.
- Conduct safety meetings and training sessions.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety programs.
- Investigate workplace incidents and implement corrective actions.
- Participate in production planning and scheduling meetings.
- Communicate project status, production issues, and resource requirements.
Education, Experience and Required Skills:- 5+ years of sheet metal fabrication or manufacturing experience.
- 3+ years of supervisory or team lead experience in a manufacturing setting.
- 10+ years of experience in related field required.
- Strong knowledge of sheet metal fabrication process and equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
- Strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
