Responsibilities

We are seeking an Expert Systems Engineer to provide senior-level technical leadership across complex GEOINT systems and capabilities. This role supports the Government in applying a multidisciplinary systems engineering approach to requirements, architecture, solutions engineering, integration, test and evaluation, reliability, resiliency, services development, maintainability, scheduling, and technical analysis across the National System of Geospatial-intelligence (NSG), Allied System of Geospatial-intelligence (ASG), and Federal Agencies.

The Expert Systems Engineer will help translate mission and customer needs into technical requirements and solutions, advise on strategic technical decisions, and integrate complex systems and programs across organizational, agency, department, and national boundaries.

Key Responsibilities Systems Engineering & Requirements
  • Support Government leadership in requirements engineering, solutions engineering, architecture, scheduling, reliability, resiliency, services development, integration, test and evaluation, maintainability, and technical analysis.
  • Plan, analyze, and establish traceability for user requirements, architectures, procedures, and system problems to automate or improve existing capabilities.
  • Capture and translate mission and customer needs into system and capability requirements and technical solutions.
  • Analyze and allocate requirements across system architecture components and executing programs.
  • Evaluate cloud service capabilities, workflows, and scheduling limitations.
  • Advise the Government on proposed solution design changes based on requirements analysis and emerging technologies.
  • Apply systems engineering lifecycle principles across complex, large-scale environments.
Integration & Technical Analysis
  • Support systems integration activities across complex enterprise environments.
  • Lead or support Analysis of Alternatives (AoAs), Courses of Action (CoAs), Trade Studies, and Engineering Assessments.
  • Support strategic technical planning, project management, performance engineering, risk management, and interface design.
  • Provide expert technical advice related to vision, strategy, plans, mission needs, requirements, processes, and capability development.
  • Integrate multiple Major Systems Acquisitions across organizational, agency, department, and governmental/national boundaries.
Leadership & Program Support
  • Assist the Government in directing multidisciplinary systems engineering efforts across the NSG, ASG, and Federal Agencies.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to contractor engineering teams.
  • Oversee and coordinate the work of Senior-, Mid-, and Junior-level Systems Engineers.
  • Apply expertise to complex government and industry programs supporting mission-critical GEOINT capabilities.

Location: This position is fully onsite in Chantilly or Springfield, VA

Qualifications Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Systems Engineering or a related technical/scientific field such as Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Operations Research, Engineering Management, Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, or a related STEM discipline; or equivalent additional experience (4 years with no degree or 2 years with a non-STEM degree).
  • 18+ years of experience working in government or industry in relevant areas, including DoD/IC acquisition processes, requirements processes, PPBES processes, or systems engineering of large, complex Systems of Systems or Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) environments operating in cloud, on-premises, or hybrid infrastructures.
  • Strong understanding and demonstrated experience across the systems engineering lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the current NSG/ASG and NRO enterprises.
  • Previous NGA and/or NSG/ASG program or project experience.
  • Previous IC or DoD program/project experience.
  • TS/SCI clearance adjudication or the ability to obtain SCI and successfully pass a polygraph.
Desired Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or higher in Systems Engineering or a related technical/scientific field such as Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Operations Research, Engineering Management, Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, or a related STEM discipline.
  • Working knowledge of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) processes, tools, and languages.
  • Software Development Framework certification.
  • INCOSE Expert Systems Engineering Professional (ESEP) certification.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
  • Membership or leadership participation in professional organizations such as:
    • ACSM
    • ASCE
    • ASPRS
    • OGC
    • SAREM
    • USGIF
  • Extensive experience in Geospatial Intelligence (GEOINT).
  • Experience engineering solutions using cloud-based technologies.
  • Experience engineering solutions using structured and unstructured Big Data.
  • Experience engineering solutions using Automation, Augmentation, and Artificial Intelligence technologies.
  • Demonstrated expertise in photogrammetry, remote sensing, image science, information sciences, geographic information systems (GIS), geomatics, or related disciplines.
Target Salary Range$104,000 - $166,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
