Full Job Description
SUMMARY:

Reporting to the News Director, the Executive Producer is responsible for NJ PBS's news content across all platforms, including broadcast programs, digital content, live streaming, and live coverage. This position plans and executes the daily news broadcasts that air on NJ PBS, including a weeknight evening newscast, a weekday news interview talk show, and any special broadcast coverage of planned events or breaking news. This position also oversees the planning and editorial direction of content on digital platforms and live streaming channels. The Executive Producer works closely with the News Director to balance breaking news (on digital and/or linear platforms) with planned coverage.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Build and manage the daily rundown and oversee the live production of video-based news programs - including those for the nightly newscast and other broadcast programs, digital platforms, and special event coverage - selecting and ordering stories for maximum editorial impact.
  • Time scripts and segments to appropriate length depending on platform.
  • Coordinate with the assignment desk, reporters, anchors, and technical staff to ensure all elements are ready before they are posted or aired.
  • Write and edit scripts and promos for daily programs.
  • Assist in developing future NJ PBS live-streaming channels.
  • Track story progress and production deadlines, alerting producers, reporters, and editors when deadlines are at risk.
  • Adapt coverage plans in response to breaking news, re-stacking rundowns and coordinating live coverage as needed.
  • Review reporter packages and edited content before it is posted or aired, checking for accuracy, fairness, and technical quality.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of news content on all digital platforms.
  • Supervise the Producer, Digital Content; the V-Mix Operator; and the Graphics Producer and Editor to ensure seamless content delivery across broadcast, digital, and live streaming platforms.
  • Work closely with the News Director to develop coverage strategies, establish editorial priorities, and ensure consistency across NJ PBS news platforms.
  • Adhere to NJ PBS editorial standards and public media ethics guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:
  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in journalism, communications, broadcasting, or a related field.
  • Minimum of four years of experience in broadcast news production, including rundown management, live newscast and special event program execution.
  • Demonstrated experience in digital news content production on multiple platforms.
  • Proficiency with newsroom management systems and broadcast production tools.
  • Ability to work under deadline pressure in a fast-paced live news environment.
  • Strong background in journalism.


PREFERRED:
  • Experience at a news media organization or PBS-affiliated station.
  • Familiarity with the New Jersey news landscape
  • Experience with digital-first and multiplatform newscast workflows
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.

Salary Range
$95,000.00-$120,000.00 Annually
