Summary:
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Executive Director of Information Technology Services provides strategic leadership for Gallaudet University and Clerc Center's technology infrastructure, enterprise systems, cybersecurity, data governance, and AI readiness, ensuring secure, reliable, and innovative technology solutions that advance the institutions' mission and future growth.

Job Description:

Strategic Leadership
  • Develops and implements a University-wide information technology strategic plan aligned with institutional priorities.
  • Serves as the University's principal advisor on technology, cybersecurity, digital transformation, and emerging technologies.
  • Supports and advances enterprise technology governance processes while prioritizing investments to maximize organization value.
  • Promotes innovation through the responsible adoption of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence.


Supervision and Administration
  • Supervises staff; provides ongoing feedback to all employees including student workers; completes the annual performance evaluations for each regular status and extended temporary staff; set goals and expectations for each staff; resolves workplace conflicts in a timely manner and seeks support from Human Resources or the Office of Equal Opportunity Program, if needed; promotes a safe and healthy work environment; and ensures professional development opportunities are provided to each regular status and extended temporary staff.
  • Provides leadership and direction to the Information Technology Services.
  • Develops and administers the IT operating and capital budgets.
  • Negotiates and manages vendor contracts and strategic technology partnerships.
  • Establishes performance measures and continuously improves IT service delivery.


Cybersecurity and Risk Management
  • Maintains and continuously enhances a dynamic, resilient institution-wide cybersecurity program to ensure effectiveness against evolving threats.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state regulations, security standards, and privacy requirements.
  • Oversees disaster recovery, business continuity, and incident response planning.


Data, Analytics, and Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • Leads institutional data governance and data quality initiatives.
  • Promotes responsible use of analytics and AI to improve decision-making, student success, operational efficiency, and institutional effectiveness.
  • Establishes governance for ethical and secure use of AI technologies across the University.


Enterprise Technology
  • Provides oversight of enterprise applications, including ERP, HR, Finance, Student Information Systems, Identity Management, CRM, Learning Management Systems, and cloud-based technologies.
  • Ensures a reliable, secure, and scalable technology infrastructure that supports academic and administrative operations.
  • Leads enterprise architecture and technology modernization initiatives.


Accessibility and Academic Technology
  • Ensures technology services and digital resources support accessibility and human-centered design to meet the needs of diverse users.
  • Partners with Academic Affairs and Clerc Center to support instructional technology, classroom technologies, online learning, and research computing.


Additional Responsibilities
  • Establishes and maintains a positive and supportive working relationship with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Demonstrates a genuine commitment to belonging on campus including workplace and student experience and participates in activities and workshops to foster continuous learning.
  • Serves as a mandatory reporter under Title IX; and commits to completing Title IX training and other compliance requirements on an annual basis.
  • Prioritizes safety in the workplace as a collective responsibility for the well-being of employees and fosters a culture of safety that is integral to our success, including strict adherence to safety procedures and protocols, as well as promptly reporting any safety hazards or incidents.
  • Performs related and other duties as needed.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • A minimum of six years of professional experience with systems administration, technology operations, or a related field.
  • Ability to communicate in American Sign Language.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree.
  • Experience working in a higher education setting.


Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong familiarity with higher education compliance requirements and data security standards.
  • Strong ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage large-scale technology initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing multiple technology teams or units within an academic or enterprise environment.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex technology transformations in higher education settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and across University departments, outside constituents and groups.
