Position Summary
Reporting to the Dean of the Gabelli School of Business, the Executive Director, Ethical and Applied AI Hub translates emerging developments into practical programs and partnerships.
The role provides leadership for Hub strategy, partnership engagement, community engagement, business development, financial management, day-to-day operations, and the Hub's capital build-out, creating the capacity for faculty leaders, deans, and the Hub's academic champions to focus on programming, research, teaching, and thought leadership.
The Executive Director operationalizes the Hub's platform promise (space, external partnerships, programming, community outreach, communications, and coordination across schools) and serves as the connective tissue between the Hub's core pillars and CoLabs, as well as its external fellows, community partners, funders, and the University. The role stewards significant public commitments, including capital and programmatic funding from New York State and NYCEDC, and represents the Hub to civic, corporate, philanthropic, community, and academic audiences citywide.
Essential Functions
Strategic Planning, Governance, and Operations
Designs, implements, and operationalizes the Hub's strategic plan. Establishes, monitors, and reports on annual goals. Oversees day-to-day Hub operations and staff, including contractors or team members. Convenes and supports the AI Hub Fellows, University leadership, and external partners and supporters. Assesses developments in AI and emerging technologies, engages relevant industry and research networks, and identifies current and emerging needs among employers and community partners to inform Hub priorities.
Partnership and Ecosystem Development
Cultivates, deepens, and broadens the Hub's ecosystem of corporate partners, AI Hub Fellows, civic and government relationships, higher-education collaborators, and community-based organizations at the institutional level. Leads cross-sector convenings and executive roundtables on responsible AI adoption, governance, and workforce readiness.
Programming and Pillar Delivery
Ensures programming across the Hub's four pillars is planned, resourced, delivered, and evaluated. Sets annual priorities and resource allocation across pillars in line with the strategic plan. Maintains balanced activity across pillars, and reviews pillar performance against outcome and engagement targets. Works with faculty, AI Hub Fellows, and external partners to develop responsive initiatives, including proactive AI upskilling opportunities and interdisciplinary, problem-based research and discovery programs.
CoLab Model and Cross-School Infrastructure
Operationalizes the Hub's CoLab model: administers faculty, fellow, and student intake; supports CoLab (co)chairs with convening, communications, and event infrastructure; manages the pilot-to-charter lifecycle and annual reporting cycle; coordinates the Hub-wide annual showcase; builds and leads the staff supporting the CoLab portfolio as it scales. Ensures each CoLab anchors to one of the Hub's four pillars.
Financial Management and Development
Prepares and manages the Hub's annual budget. Directs compliance, deliverables, and outcome reporting for public funding, including the metrics and outcomes commitments made to the City. In partnership with Development and University Relations, builds and stewards a philanthropic and corporate sponsorship pipeline, including naming opportunities, program underwriting, and grant proposals. Develops earned-revenue lines, including executive education and corporate programs, that advance long-term sustainability.
Capital Build-Out
Coordinates with University Facilities, the architecture firm, and University leadership on the design, construction, and opening of the Hub's Lincoln Center space. Stewards use of Hub spaces (labs, collaboration pods, event space) to maximize engagement.
Communications, Brand, and External Representation
Serves as a primary spokesperson and public face for the Hub alongside University leadership and AI Hub Fellows. Builds and stewards internal, cross-campus relationships so the Hub functions as a cross-University platform. In collaboration with University communications teams, directs the Hub's web presence, media relations, and publications; translates program outcomes into compelling narratives and metrics for funders, partners, university leadership, and the public.
