The Enterprise Strategy team develops and advances CVS Health's long-term strategic priorities, identifies new growth opportunities, and drives alignment across businesses to accelerate enterprise value creation. This role will report into Aetna's Chief Strategy Officer and primarily support CVS Health's Aetna business; partnering closely with the Aetna Executive Leadership team to shape and execute critical strategic initiatives.
The Executive Director, Enterprise Strategy will lead the development and execution of strategies focused on
advancing Aetna's clinical, provider, network, and pharmacy priorities to improve affordability, health outcomes, and member experience. This individual will partner closely with clinical, network, product, pharmacy, operations, and finance leaders to develop integrated, actionable strategies that support Aetna's total cost of care objectives. The role will leverage market, competitive, consumer, technology, and regulatory insights to identify opportunities for innovation, facilitate strategic decision-making, and drive alignment across the organization to ensure priorities translate into measurable actions and results. In addition to shaping strategy, this individual will evaluate emerging trends, identify opportunities to improve affordability and outcomes, and lead high-priority initiatives with significant executive visibility.
This role is ideal for a highly motivated, intellectually curious leader who thrives in ambiguous environments, influences senior stakeholders, and drives results through collaboration and strategic problem-solving. The successful candidate will bring strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills, an innovative mindset, and a passion for improving affordability, healthcare outcomes, and the overall member experience. Prior experience in health insurance, managed care, care delivery, clinical strategy, provider networks, or pharmacy is preferred but not required.
Required Qualifications- 10+ years of experience in strategy, management consulting, corporate development, financial analysis, public policy, product development, mergers and acquisitions, healthcare/clinical strategy, or related fields.
- Proven ability to lead complex strategic initiatives from strategy development through execution, driving alignment across executives, business leaders, and cross-functional teams.
- Experience developing and synthesizing market, competitive, consumer, regulatory, and technology insights to identify growth opportunities and inform strategic decision-making.
- Proven ability to facilitate executive and senior leadership discussions, build alignment across stakeholders, and influence enterprise-level decisions.
- Ability to deliver high-impact strategic recommendations and communications to executive leadership through compelling presentations, storytelling, and structured problem solving.
- Strong executive presence with exceptional communication, relationship-building, and stakeholder management skills across highly matrixed organizations.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity, simplify complex challenges, and lead multiple concurrent priorities while maintaining quality, speed, and attention to detail.
- Strong people leadership skills with the ability to coach, mentor, and develop high-performing teams
Preferred Qualifications- Working knowledge of payer, provider, pharmacy, and healthcare product segments
- Health plan, managed care, payer, or health insurance industry experience preferred, including familiarity with Commercial, Medicare, Medicaid, or other health plan lines of business
- Experience supporting enterprise, business unit, or growth strategy initiatives within a healthcare organization
- Growth mindset and commitment to deepening expertise across the healthcare industry
- Experience building and evaluating financial models, business cases, and investment analyses
- Ability to synthesize market trends, competitive intelligence, and customer insights into actionable strategic recommendations
- Demonstrated experience identifying and evaluating new growth opportunities, partnerships, and business models
Education- Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) required
- MBA, MPH, MPA or other advanced degree preferred
Pay RangeThe typical pay range for this role is:
$175,100.00 - $334,750.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company's equity award program.
