Full Job Description
This opportunity is in the Claims department

Our Claims Department oversees both high-exposure workers' compensation and liability claims. As an unbundled carrier, we work actively with third-party administrators (TPAs) and self-administered accounts to assist in guiding claims to a successful resolution. As an excess carrier, the catastrophic claims we handle keep our group challenged, but the uniqueness provides plenty of growth opportunities.

Role Description:

As an Excess WC Claims Manager, you will manage high-exposure workers' compensation claims from initial assignment through closure while helping protect Safety National's interests and deliver effective claim outcomes. You will evaluate coverage and exposure, establish and update reserves, negotiate settlements within your authority, and help guide the medical and litigation strategies that drive claims toward successful resolution.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with third-party administrators, defense counsel, Medical Management staff, vendor partners, Underwriters, and internal Claims leadership. You will direct and advise TPAs on claim handling, monitor counsel performance, identify reinsurance involvement, and communicate on large losses, problem accounts, and TPA concerns. Your workers' compensation expertise, analytical judgment, and ability to work independently will be essential as you manage complex claims across multiple stakeholders.

You will also process reimbursement and vendor check requests in accordance with department procedures and authority levels, maintain required claim file documentation, provide reinsurance updates, and travel as needed for TPA and LPT audits, underwriting-requested audits, and problem claims. Throughout your work, you will embody Safety National's core values of Relationships, Integrity, Teamwork, Balance, and Stability.

Qualifications:

Education:

A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university is required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Proficiency with Excel, Word, and Microsoft Outlook applications.
  • Ability to travel on an as-needed basis for TPA and LPT audits, underwriting-requested audits, and problem claims, with completion of reports in accordance with department procedures.
  • Must be presently authorized to work in the U.S. without a requirement for work authorization sponsorship by our company for this position now or in the future.
  • Qualified candidates residing outside the St. Louis metropolitan area are eligible to work remotely or in one of our regional offices. For candidates who reside in the St. Louis metropolitan area, if hired you will be required to work a hybrid work schedule which includes a minimum of 3 days per week in our St. Louis Corporate Office, located at 1832 Schuetz Rd, Saint Louis, MO.
