Description Your role at GEI. GEI's New York City office is seeking a junior to mid-level Environmental Scientist, Geologist, or Engineer. This individual will provide support to and manage ongoing office and field-related efforts for large-scale remedial actions at a former Manufactured Gas Plant site. The position includes both fieldwork and office work.
Essential Responsibilities & Duties - Support and management of tasks under the New York State Brownfield Program (NYS BCP) and New York City Voluntary Cleanup Program (NYC VCP) projects
- Support and management of environmental site assessments, remedial and pre-design investigations, and remedial actions
- Perform environmental sampling of various media
- Review and interpret data and preparation of reports and work plans, especially those documents required under the BCP
- Provide assistance with business development and preparation of proposals
- Oversee and direct subcontractors during environmental investigations and remedial activities
- Develop and refine investigation and remedial strategies prior to and during installation of remediation systems
- Must be self-motivated with good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to responsibly work individually as well as being part of a larger team
Minimum Qualifications - B.S. in Environmental Science, Geology or Engineering
- Experience in on-site implementation of environmental remedial actions and oversight of construction activities
- Experience working on Manufactured Gas Plant (MGP) sites is a plus
- A minimum of 3-5 years of previous professional experience in environmental consulting.
- Excellent technical report writing and communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience with spatial analysis and visualization software such as CAD, GIS, Leapfrog Hydro, EVS, etc., is a plus
- 40-hour HAZWOPER training, OSHA 30-hour Construction training
- Willingness and ability to travel to project sites in all NYC boroughs with potential to assist other offices in the tri-state area
- Valid U.S. driver's license
