Job Description The OpportunityIn the next 30 years, the world will transform every part of the built environment to be climate positive green infrastructure. But today's renewable energy development process can't move fast enough to meet global goals. Paces exists to change that. We are providing software and services to accelerate power development and unlocking one of the greatest opportunities of our time: transforming how infrastructure gets built and ensuring it's built with renewable energy.
Our SolutionPaces is building the development engine for renewable infrastructure and power projects. We have built Agentic AI that automates early-stage due diligence and pairs it with in-house expertise to accelerate late-stage diligence. The result: projects move from siting to construction-ready in a fraction of the time. Our platform streamlines siting, interconnection, and permitting for renewable energy and data center developers, real estate firms, EV charging companies, and more.
Our TeamWe are building a team where people can proudly say their time at Paces is the
most impactful, meaningful work of their career. Our amazing team in Brooklyn, New York includes incredible team members from tech companies like Meta AI, DeepMind, and Tesla; various high growth startups; as well as industry leaders from TotalEnergies, Con Edison and GE.
Paces is growing rapidly and looking for exceptional people to join who want to have a massive positive climate impact while building a great culture!
We are looking for an exceptional Environmental Engineer to join our Solution Engineering & Development team, reporting directly to the Head of Customer Success & Solutions. What You'll Achieve- Be an environmental source of truth. As a licensed Environmental PE, you will be the internal authority on environmental risk and regulatory compliance - setting the bar for how we assess sites and build our environmental modules.
- Translate your expertise into product. Partner daily with Product Managers and Software Engineers to codify your environmental knowledge into automated workflows, data models, and report templates - turning what used to take days of expert review into repeatable, scalable modules.
- Build and validate our environmental playbooks. Define the standards our automations are built against, QA outputs for accuracy, and continuously sharpen our environmental logic as regulations evolve and our platform grows.
- Work with AI. Partner with our AI engineers to hardwire your environmental know-how into automated workflows-codifying repeatable analyses so the whole team moves faster and smarter.
Requirements- Active PE license with an environmental specialization is required.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in environmental permitting, land-use entitlements, or regulatory due diligence (e.g., Environmental & Permitting Specialist, Project Developer, Environmental Consultant, or related role).
- Deep working knowledge of state, federal, and local permitting processes (NEPA, CEQA, ESA, Section 404/401, zoning and land-use boards).
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex environmental and regulatory concepts clearly to non-technical audiences, including engineers, product managers, and executives.
- Comfort working in a product and technology environment. You don't need to write code, but you need to think systematically and be able to articulate your expertise in ways that can be built into software.
- Familiarity with GIS and environmental datasets.
About You- You get energy from untangling complex environmental diligence processes and spotting risks others miss.
- Friends describe you as meticulous, detail-oriented, and maybe even a little obsessed with checklists.
- You're comfortable juggling multiple site reviews at once without dropping the ball.
- You default to curiosity, ask "why" until you understand, and you love turning that knowledge into playbooks others can follow.
- You're excited by the chance to work on first-of-kind projects and to help hardwire your expertise into AI-driven workflows.
Bonus Points- Prior experience in a fast-moving startup or product company where you've had to translate domain expertise into scalable processes or tools.
- Relationships with environmental consultancies or agency contacts, and experience negotiating mitigation measures.
- Scars from shepherding projects through NEPA, EIS/EA, or NRC processes - we want to learn from what you've lived through.
- Comfort scraping or wrangling data from public GIS portals and environmental databases; scripting experience (Python, R) is a plus.
- A niche obsession - bat habitats, wetland delineations, community permitting battles - surprise us with your specialty
Compensation and Benefits- $120,000 - $140,00 annual compensation
- Competitive equity compensation
- 401(k) match
- Health, dental and vision insurance
- Paid company holidays & PTO
- Hybrid work in the office in Williamsburg, Brooklyn ~3x per week
