WONDERING WHAT YOU'LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR?
The Intermediate Environmental Permitting Specialist will work within an interdisciplinary team, preparing and supporting environmental permit applications for mine sites across Canada. Working with guidance from senior permitting leads, responsibilities will include:
- Conducting regulatory screening and permitting gap analyses to identify approval requirements and pathways for new mining projects, expansions, and amendments
- Preparing permit applications, coordinating and integrating technical inputs from hydrogeology, water quality, aquatics, terrestrial, and engineering disciplines
- Tracking and responding to regulator information requests and review comments through the approval process
- Organizing, analyzing, and interpreting surface water and groundwater data
- Participating in technical meetings with clients, regulators, and Indigenous groups
- Managing assigned tasks within scope, schedule, and budget, and contributing to proposals and larger multidisciplinary projects
- Occasional opportunities to join field programs with other disciplines, which may include travel to remote mine sites
THE QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Geoscience, Environmental Engineering, or a related field
- 5+ years of relevant technical experience
- Demonstrated experience preparing or contributing technical content to environmental permit applications for mining projects (e.g., discharge/effluent approvals, water licenses or water taking permits, closure plans, construction approvals)
- Working knowledge of federal and provincial/territorial environmental legislation relevant to mining (e.g., provincial water and environmental protection legislation, Fisheries Act, Canadian Navigable Water Act)
- Experience managing tasks or project components, including scope, schedule, and budget
- Strong organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills with high attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical writing
- Proficiency in MS Word and MS Excel
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel
Assets
- Experience with assimilative capacity studies, water quality data interpretation, and wastewater management planning
- Experience with mine closure planning and financial assurance
- Consulting experience
- Experience with federal or provincial environmental assessment processes
- Professional accreditation (P.Eng. or P.Geo.), or eligibility for accreditation
