Responsibilities

Howmet Aerospace has an immediate opening for an EHS Engineer (EHS Professional) at our Hampton, Va location. Our passionate commitment to EHS provides the successful candidate with an excellent environment in which to work and the leadership commitment and support to deliver results. This position is a key member of the location's EHS team and is highly visible position in the plant and Business Unit. The position provides an excellent platform for potential future growth to the successful candidate.

Salary:

Anticipated Pay Range: $85K-95K per year. *Pay rates within this range are determined based on various factors including experience, education, certifications, etc.

Key Responsibilities of this position include:
  • Assist with location fatality and serious injury prevention efforts including helping to lead deployment and execution of key fatality and serious injury prevention elements and coaching location leaders.
  • Analyze injury and incident data and assist line management in the implementation of focused injury reduction efforts. Provide expertise to proactively address injury reduction efforts.
  • Assist with the facility's industrial hygiene program including execution of IH sampling plans, the administration of IH databases and employee exposure records, hazardous material management, ergonomics oversight, radiation protection and health hazard elimination efforts.
  • Provide technical expertise and participate in injury/incident investigations to assist in identifying root cause analysis and provide recommendations to prevent recurrence.
  • Assisting with the management of Local, State, and Federal environmental compliance permits.
  • Monitor and report on environmental metrics such as emissions, waste, and energy usage.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of EHS policy and procedures.
  • Coach and counsel departmental leaders in the execution of their EHS accountabilities.
  • Partner with location leadership to deliver EHS objectives.
  • Lead and assist with other EHS accountabilities.


Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution
  • A minimum of 3 years of Professional experience in an Environmental, safety, or health role.
  • Employee must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position entails access to export-controlled items and employment offers are conditioned upon an applicant's ability to lawfully obtain access to such items.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in environmental, safety or health discipline.
  • Professional certification such as an ASP / CSP/ CIH or ability to obtain.

Preferred Skills:
  • Demonstrated professional with passion for change and relentless focus on execution.
  • Knowledge of applicable Federal and State EHS related regulations and procedures.
  • Strong communication skills, analytical skills, problem solving and human relations skills.
  • Ability to make difficult decisions with sometimes an incomplete set of data.
  • Critical skills include: Execution, attention to detail, initiative, conflict resolution, customer focus, collaboration, building ownership and commitment, establishing a direction, drive for change, gaining organization support and tenacity.
