CDM Smith is looking for an entry-level Environmental Engineer to join our Water Services Group in Truckee, CA. Under direct supervision, uses GIS and CAD tools to create basic to moderate complexity engineering designs involving site layout development, site grading and drainage, hydraulics and hydrology calculations, water distribution systems, collection systems, storage tanks and impoundments, stormwater infrastructure and treatment. Reviews draft designs for compliance with federal, state and local regulations. Ensures that firm policies and practices are followed on all designs. Performs site reviews and studies, as needed, to ensure designs are aligned with location specifications. Updates design requirements as necessary. Contributes to firm's knowledge and intellectual property by developing white papers and technical design documentation of new or special case designs, studies, etc.. Submits technical papers for publishing to technical journals and may create or work with a team to create a poster or other presentation material for a conference. The position involves both office and field work related to water quality and stormwater monitoring programs. Field work may include working in difficult conditions including adverse weather, long hours, and night-time work for data collection. Database and data processing work is required along with development of technical reports. Skills & Abilities Basic Knowledge of computer assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices. Basic Knowledge of engineer principles of design. Knowledge of Microsoft business software (excel, word, etc.). Good verbal and written communication ability. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental or Chemical Engineering or related discipline. 0 years. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
