Full Job Description
Title:Entry Level Project Engineer- NGSW Equipping (Next Generation Squad Weapon)
Location: Independence, MO

Salary: $91,100- 116,000 depending on experience level

Schedule: 9/80 schedule
Relocation Available - preference will be given to local candidates.

Focus: We are seeking a Project Engineer - NGSW (New Generation Squad Weapon) Equipping to support engineering projects from concept through successful completion. This role will focus on manufacturing processes such as metal forming, cold heading and general manufacturing while collaborating with cross-functional teams to implement equipment, solve technical challenges and improve process performance. The Project Engineer will help ensure projects are completed safely, on time, within scope and on budget.

Project Engineer - Essential Job Functions:
  • Assist in designing, modifying, and upgrading machinery and production equipment to improve efficiency, safety, and reliability.
  • Develop equipment technical requirements.
  • Participate in site visits, inspections, and troubleshooting to identify and resolve machinery-related issues, reducing downtime and enhancing system performance.
  • Conduct data analysis to drive decisions.
  • Collaborate with teams to optimize production processes, ensure compliance with industry regulations, and implement best practices for operational success.
  • Launch new equipment and processes including maintenance and operations procedure development.
  • Prepare technical reports, project documentation, cost estimates, and progress updates to support informed decision-making and project management.

Project Engineer - Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree* in Engineering
  • Relevant experience in manufacturing preferred. Must have an overall grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale (documentation required).

Candidates with 2 years full time, engineering experience do not require GPA documentation.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical systems and machinery.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision, manage multiple priorities, and deliver results in a high-pressure environment.
  • Effectively set priorities, manage high-volume workload, and willingness to be collaborative and support team efforts.
  • Ability to travel approximately 10%.

Location-Specific Requirements:
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense secret security clearance preferred.
  • Must possess a valid US Driver's License.
  • This position requires successful vetting as an Employee Possessor in accordance with U.S. Department of Justice and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
  • This position requires access to ITAR controlled technical data, and as such, employment will be contingent upon the candidate's ability to access ITAR controlled technical data pursuant to an export license approved by the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls, if required.
  • This position requires successful vetting for unescorted access in accordance with U.S. Army and Department of Defense access policies. The US Government does not allow non-US citizens on-site at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant. Therefore, to be considered in the hiring process, the candidate must be a US citizen.
