We are seeking an experienced Principal Marine Engineer (Engineer V) to provide senior-level engineering expertise supporting marine equipment, systems, vessel operations, and Underwater Ship Husbandry (UWSH) activities. This is a highly technical, hands-on role for an engineer who can take complex challenges from design and analysis through documentation, modification, testing, and field execution.
What You'll Be Doing:- Lead the engineering, design, development, and modification of marine equipment and systems.
- Develop and review engineering calculations, technical drawings, 3D models, simulations, technical manuals, specifications, and planning documents.
- Evaluate existing equipment and develop engineering solutions for maintenance, repair, modernization, and system modifications.
- Support cost estimating, equipment maintenance planning, and configuration management activities.
- Provide hands-on engineering support for marine rigging, vessel operations, UWSH operations, equipment installation, testing, and other field activities.
- Review technical and engineering deliverables for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable requirements.
- Work closely with engineering, operations, maintenance, and field personnel to troubleshoot complex technical issues and develop practical solutions.
- Clearly communicate complex engineering concepts, recommendations, and technical requirements to both engineering and non-engineering stakeholders.
What You'll Need to Succeed:- Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited engineering program or in a directly related technical discipline.
- Minimum of 12 years of marine-related engineering experience.
- Expert-level knowledge and demonstrated experience in the engineering, design, and development of marine equipment and systems.
- Strong knowledge of equipment maintenance procedures, cost estimating, equipment modifications, and configuration management.
- Extensive experience developing and reviewing engineering documents, calculations, drawings, 3D models, simulations, technical manuals, and associated planning documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to translate highly technical engineering information into clear and concise communication for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Significant hands-on or practical marine engineering experience, including exposure to marine rigging, vessel operations, UWSH operations, or closely related disciplines.
Preferred Experience:- Experience supporting U.S. Navy, NAVSEA, shipyard, maritime, diving, salvage, or other Government marine programs.
- Experience supporting equipment throughout its lifecycle, including design, development, modification, maintenance, testing, and field deployment.
- Experience working directly with vessel crews, technicians, divers, riggers, maintenance personnel, or other field operations teams.
- Demonstrated ability to independently solve complex engineering problems in both office and operational environments.
