Northrop Grumman is currently seeking out a mission-driven AssociateEngineer Packaging or Engineer Packaging to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals at our Palmdale, CA location.

This position will report to the GSC Aeronautics Systems Packaging, Handling, Storage, & Transportability (PHS&T) Manager and will be responsible for developing and maintaining innovative packaging solutions in support of all programs and sites across the sector, such as specialized containers, pallets, material handling devices, shipping fixtures, shadow boards, and parts protection devices. Job duties will encompass leadership in determining packaging specifications according to the nature of various products, cost limitations, quality & legal requirements, and the type of protection required, considering need for resistance to such external variables as moisture, corrosive chemicals, temperature variations, light heat, rough handling, and tampering. Packaging solutions will include documentation management and an understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).

Job Responsibilities:
  • Designing packaging & material handling solutions to ensure safe storage, movement, and transport of items to end destinations.
  • Participate in program/ homeroom meetings with internal and/or external representatives concerning material, manufacturing, programmatic risks, constraints, and design reviews.
  • Create Basis of Estimates (BOEs) in support of Program proposal efforts that are aligned with PHS&T's statement of work and meeting cost, schedule, delivery, and affordability goals as it pertains to business objectives.


This position may be filled as a Level 1 or Level 2 based on the qualifications outlined below.

Basic Qualifications:

Associate Engineer Packaging Level 1:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM)
  • Knowledge of design techniques & principles utilizing 3D/2D Computer-Aided Design (CAD), CATIA, NX, or similar software within aerospace and/or other similar industrial industries.
  • Experience working with suppliers and procurement.
  • Experience in managing the implementation and delivery of engineering solutions in support of Government customers.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S Government Secret level clearance within a reasonable amount of time after hired date, as determined by the Company to meet its business requirements.


Engineer Packaging Level 2:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 2 years of relevant experience including, packaging engineering, manufacturing engineering, and/or supply chain; OR a Master's degree
  • Knowledge of design techniques & principles utilizing 3D/2D Computer-Aided Design (CAD), CATIA, NX, or similar software within aerospace and/or other similar industrial industries.
  • Minimum of 1 years of experience of project management.
  • Experience working with suppliers and procurement.
  • Experience in managing the implementation and delivery of engineering solutions in support of Government customers.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S Government Secret level clearance within a reasonable amount of time after hired date, as determined by the Company to meet its business requirements.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of 49 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) & International Air Transport Association (IATA) requirements.
  • Detailed understanding of various methods of parts protection and shipment of equipment via land, air, & sea.


Primary Level Salary Range: $69,400.00 - $104,000.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $83,400.00 - $125,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
