Position: First Shift Manufacturing Test Development Engineer III
Location: Beverly, MA (Onsite)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm
About the Role
In this role, you will design, implement, validate, and sustain electrical and mechanical test solutions used in Axcelis manufacturing operations globally. You’ll collaborate closely with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to support new product introduction, optimize test coverage, and improve overall manufacturing efficiency.
Your work will directly influence product reliability, production cycle time, and throughput—key factors driving the performance of our global organization.
This position provides exposure to a wide range of engineering disciplines, including electronics, mechanical design, automation, instrumentation, data analysis, and troubleshooting of complex test systems.
What You’ll Do
- Own test systems from concept through production use, including development, deployment, and sustaining support in a manufacturing environment
- Design and validate electrical and mechanical manufacturing test solutions, including automated test equipment, custom fixtures, and tooling
- Execute fabrication and implementation of custom test hardware, utilizing additive and subtractive manufacturing methods, custom PCBs, NI DAQ systems, and off-the-shelf components
- Perform hands-on debugging of equipment and systems, including test equipment, data acquisition devices, test software, sensors, intersystem communication, PCBAs, motion controllers, and robotics
- Analyze test data to identify failure modes, root causes, process variations, and opportunities for continuous improvement
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including Manufacturing, Design Engineering, Quality, and Process Engineering—to define test requirements and ensure alignment with product needs
- Create, update, and maintain detailed test documentation, procedures, calibration instructions, and engineering reports
- Support new product introduction (NPI) by developing test strategies and equipment for emerging technologies
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to increase test throughput, enhance repeatability, reduce downtime, and improve equipment reliability
What We’re Looking For
Required Education & Experience:
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field
- 2–4 years of engineering experience
- Experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus
Technical Skills:
- Familiarity with CAD modeling software such as SolidWorks, Creo, or AutoCAD
- Understanding of electrical schematics and PCB design tools (Altium, KiCad, or similar)
- Experience using basic measurement tools and lab equipment, including DMMs, oscilloscopes, DAQs, and signal analyzers
- Familiarity with National Instruments product line including NI LabVIEW, NI TestStand, cDAQ, and PXIe
- Strong troubleshooting skills across electrical, electronic, mechanical, and system-level issues, with the ability to diagnose problems where root cause may span multiple disciplines (e.g., electrically controlled mechanical systems)
- Exposure to vacuum systems, RF, motion control, and/or high voltage systems
- Ability to use fabrication tools (hand tools, calipers, 3D printing, basic machining)
- Competency with data analysis techniques and tools such as Excel, Minitab, MATLAB, or similar
- Familiarity with project management tools such as Gantt charts, Microsoft Project, or Planner

U.S. BASE SALARY RANGE
$95,216.00 - $142,824.00
This base salary range reflects the typical compensation for this role across U.S. locations.
Our salary ranges are determined by role and level; individual pay is determined based on
multiple factors, including job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, work
location, and internal equity. The range provides the opportunity for growth and progression as
you develop within the role.
Base pay is one part of our U.S. total compensation package which includes eligibility in the
Axcelis Team Incentive bonus plan, and comprehensive benefits package (for regular
employees working 20+ hours a week).
