Full Job Description
We are looking for a Supplier Quality Engineer to lead and execute strategy with Subcontract programs. This person will report to the Supplier Quality Manager and will be responsible for implementing quality management tools and processes to ensure suppliers delivery high-quality products on-time to BAE Systems. This position will include approximately 25% travel. Travel will be a mix of local, day visits as well as overnight travel, outside the local area. The Role: - Manage supplier quality performance across subcontracts product portfolio; ownership of the supplier quality strategy for the programs. - First line of defense for technical questions on all aspects of Program Supplier Quality. - Evaluate and assess the impact of nonconforming product and suppliers' corrective actions, including timely communication with the program team of both. - Quality Management with Outsourced special process suppliers. Manage NC: plant containment actions, floor impact problem solving and full 8-D resolution (partnering with ES-Defense proccedures and expertise) including travel to suppliers. - Perform Production Process Verifications (PPV's) at supplier locations and participate in PPAP review process and other aspects of APQP. - Partner with the Category Supplier Quality team on problem solving and root cause analysis activities with suppliers to eliminate recurrence of non-conformances. - Flow down contractual requirements to suppliers based on QMS / part / risk / customer requirements via quality clausing codes. - Utilize supplier Scorecards/metrics and analytical tools to quantify performance levels of individual suppliers and work with those suppliers to develop improvement plans to achieve 100% quality performance. - Partner with supply chain to ensure proper selection of sourcing (throughout entire product life cycle) to mitigate risk and reduce overall cost of ownership of the parts. - Collaborate with engineering, supply chain, and program quality to identify part and supplier risk for proactive mitigation activities. - Support AS9145 deployment in key suppliers to mitigate program risks. - Drive "Zero Defect" culture within the supply base. The successful candidate: - A self-starting problem solver who will utilize your analytical skills to find innovative solutions to quality-related issues. - A strong desire and mindset to drive actions and projects to closure without being prompted - Strong communication skills to ensure suppliers understand requirements and expectations, make progress reports and present findings. - Possesses a strong understanding of Quality Science tools (APQP/PPAP, 8D RCCA, Statistical Process Controls, Lean Six Sigma, Sampling and Inspection, FAI/PPV) along with relevant industry standards and their application to drive execution excellence. - Relates well with individuals at all levels of the organization, builds appropriate rapport, fosters constructive and effective relationships. - Collaborate with cross functional teams. Required Skills and Education - Bachelor's degree with 4-6+ years of direct experience or 8-10+ years of engineering experience in lieu of degree - Ability to analyze supplier defect/performance data and display visually. - Ability to read and interpret documents such as technical drawings, specifications, requirements - Excellent project management, planning, and organization skills - Strong communicator capable of working through complex issues with peers, management and multiple functions. - Demonstrated Capability with 8D/RCCA activities. - Work experience with APQP 9145. - Experience with requirements management and flowdown. - Ability to make decisions and self-direct suppliers using sound judgment while complying with. policies, procedures, appropriate principles and applicable state and federal laws and regulations. Preferred Skills and Education - Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a technical field - PPV/FAIR 9102 - Experienced with Special processes (f.i. Heat Treatment, Welding, Coatings...) - NADCAP certificed auditor with special processes. - LSS Green Belt - Experience with AS9100/IATF or equivalent Quality Management Systems - PPAP Management and Approval experience.
