Job DescriptionJoin BAE Systems' Infrastructure Management Center (IMC) and help shape National Security. We are seeking a motivated Systems Engineer to join our dynamic, cross-functional team. In this role, you will support the planning, design, and integration of complex technical challenges that support critical national security missions, including nuclear missions, production facilities, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, and ammunition plant infrastructure.
This is an ideal role for an early-career engineer looking to grow within a matrix-type organization. You will have the opportunity to collaborate across multiple departments, leveraging digital engineering tools and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) practices to deliver cutting-edge solutions for the warfighter.
The Role
As a Model-Based Systems Engineer, you will lead the transition from document-centric to model-centric engineering, driving the integration and analysis of complex hardware and software systems. Your primary responsibilities will include:
The Role
As a Model-Based Systems Engineer, you will lead the transition from document-centric to model-centric engineering, driving the integration and analysis of complex hardware and software systems. Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Model-Based Architecture: Develop and maintain system architectures using SysML to improve requirement traceability and change control for both new and legacy programs.
- Digital Thread Integration: Utilize Cameo Systems Modeler and DOORS to create a "single source of truth," ensuring seamless alignment between stakeholder needs, system design, and verification artifacts.
- Interface & Boundary Definition: Lead the definition of system-level interfaces and boundary conditions to facilitate hardware and software integration across multi-disciplinary teams.
- Requirements Engineering: Manage the full requirements lifecycle, translating mission profiles and operational requirements into precise system specifications and model elements.
- Technical Analysis & Trade Studies: Evaluate system-level risks and perform trade studies within the model to support informed technical, cost, and schedule decision-making.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as the primary technical liaison between government stakeholders and prime contractor teams, ensuring that model outputs meet customer expectations.
- Digital Process Improvement: Implement and champion Agile methodologies and digital engineering best practices to optimize the management of critical infrastructure programs.
- Mentor and train team members who are new to MBSE and Cameo. Provide them with guidance and best practices.
- Review models for best practices and provide clear, concise feedback on how to make improvements.
Required Skills and Education- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related STEM field (e.g., Mathematics, Physics, Chemical Engineering).
- 6 years of technical experience (4 years with MS) with a proven track record in systems engineering and integration.
- MBSE Proficiency: Direct experience applying Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles and utilizing tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler, MagicDraw, or Sparx Enterprise Architect.
- Requirements Mastery: Expert-level proficiency in requirements management tools (e.g., IBM DOORS).
- Analytical Aptitude: Strong experience in system design, integration, and the analysis of complex military or commercial hardware/software systems.
- Communication: Ability to communicate complex technical architectural concepts clearly to team members, stakeholders, and customers.
- Experience mentoring and training others on how to implement and use MBSE.
Preferred Skills and Education- Advanced Modeling: Proficiency in SysML and experience developing automated scripts (e.g., Python) to enhance modeling efficiency.
- Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance.
- Specialized Knowledge: Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or other digital twin technologies.
- Certifications: Foundational certifications in Systems Engineering (INCOSE) or Project Management (PMP).
- Methodology: Deep understanding of Agile frameworks and their application in highly regulated defense environments.
- Active Security Clearance
