DescriptionNorthrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a
Sr. Principal Fulgurite Specialty Reliability Systems Engineer (level 4) to join its team. This position is in
Roy UT and will support the Sentinel program. Northrop Grumman supports the Air Force's sustainment, development, production and deployment of hardware and system modifications for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Ground and Airborne Launch Control Systems, Launch Facilities and associated infrastructure.
What you will get to do:The Flight Systems Futures operating unit within Strategic Deterrent Systems focuses on the design, development, and demonstration of hypersonic re-entry vehicles and advanced payloads, with an emphasis on rapid development and prototyping aligned to specific customer missions. We operate in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment where innovative concepts are matured quickly into credible, testable solutions that address our nation's most demanding strategic deterrence needs.
This role will be leading our program reliability activities to include the following actions:
- Contribute to the definition and evolution of system architecture.
- Generate and manage requirements across the system hierarchy; create verification methodologies that satisfy program, DoD, and nuclear safety standards.
- Produce technical customer deliverables (trade studies, compliance matrices, status reports) for senior leadership and external stakeholders.
- Lead lab based demonstrations and hardware in the loop (HIL) tests to validate architecture and interface behavior.
- Perform reliability assessments and support the development of reliability related requirements for nuclear certified systems.
- Participate in cross functional design, trade, and verification reviews; mentor junior engineers.
- Ensure compliance with Northrop Grumman engineering processes (CMMI, DO178C/DO254, MILSTD498) and configuration management standards.
Basic Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in STEM with 8 Years of related engineering experience; 6 Years with Masters; 4 Years with PhD
- Must be a U.S. Citizen with an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application with an investigation completed within the last 6 years, current and within scope.
- Must have the ability to obtain TOP SECRET clearance and Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period, as determined by the company to meet its business needs.
- 3+ years of system architecture experience focused on reliability modeling, failure mode analysis, and reliability requirements development for high assurance (nuclear surety) systems.
- 3+ years of demonstrated experience with high value customer presentations on multiple projects with competing priorities.
Preferred Qualifications:- ICBM Experience (MMIII or Sentinel).
- 2+ years of experience in reliability requirements and assessments for nuclear certified or nuclear surety systems (e.g., NQA1, DOESTDxxxx).
- Experience resolving issues and providing technical support.
- Experience using Microsoft (MS) Word, Excel, and Power Point.
- Capable of working with minimal direction and in team environments.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including demonstrated experience with high value customer presentations, with ability to focus on multiple projects with competing priorities.
- Strong understanding and broad application of complex engineering systems (engineering standards, configuration management, material review board, process control, tooling, facilities, software, etc.) for the development of complex systems of systems.
- Experience developing systems in joint collaborative environment between contractor and customer.
- 1+ year experience with Northrop Grumman engineering standards (CMMI, DO178C, DO254, MILSTD498, NQA1) and safety critical development practices.

This position's standard work schedule is 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
#SentinelSystemsPrimary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
