Project Overview:

Thacker Pass is the largest known lithium resource in the United States. Once complete, the mine and processing facilities will produce more lithium carbonate than any other facility in the United States by far - enough to power 1 million electric vehicles per year. As the EPCM contractor for Lithium Americas, Bechtel is responsible for managing and integrating the efforts of a team contractors engineering and building the facility. We are also managing procurement of about $1 Billion in goods and services. Earth work began in 2023, and design and procurement of long-lead equipment is underway. The project is located in the high desert and wide-open spaces of north-central Nevada about 25 miles from the Oregon border, 1 hour northwest of Winnemucca, Nevada and 3 hours northeast of Reno. Planned with sustainability and the environment in mind, the facility will use its excess process heat to generate electricity and will recycle process water up to seven times. Once the second phase of the project is complete, Thacker Pass will produce more than 16 times the current U.S. output of lithium. Job Summary:

In this role, you will integrate ES&H issues and requirements into planning documents, government documents, design specifications and criteria, construction plans and schedules, and subcontract packages for projects. Have technical responsibility for interpreting complex requirements, evaluating and applying appropriate ES&H engineering principles, and formulating scopes of work, plans, and methodologies suitable for achieving and maintaining compliance with ES&H requirements. Provide technical assistance to other ES&H professionals assigned to the project and other project functions.Will be responsible for faithfully complying with all project safety rules. Must present emergency response and action protocols for each type of emergency, defining the bases of each case such as the chain of command, levels of emergency, local or external support requirements, communication plan with emergency chiefs, coordinators, or whoever the project's emergency plan determines. #LI-NP1

Major Responsibilities:

  • Advising and assisting Bechtel contractors when required in critical activities and/or safety inspections using brigade members to identify and/or evaluate risk situations for people and/or rescue conditions.
  • Participating early in critical activities where the presence of the brigade for hazardous work is required; these participations will be approved by Bechtel.
  • Coordinating, executing, and evaluating emergency drill exercises for any type of emergency in the project to train personnel in the steps of an emergency.
  • Must generate drill reports to inform Bechtel of any findings.
  • Reviewing and evaluating the project's safety requirements to ensure an adequate emergency response (communications, traffic plan, route map, meeting points, evacuation routes, etc.).
  • Interacting with the emergency coordinators of each project contractor or their designee to link functions between ERE teams and the project brigade of each area.
  • Each Bechtel ESH leader of each area or their designee will support inter-company organization to facilitate and formalize communications of any kind.
  • Reviewing and evaluating the requirements that allow an adequate emergency response (communications, traffic plan, route map, meeting points, evacuation routes in the project areas, among others).


Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Certified in Emergency response.
  • Requires a volunteer firefighter or having verifiable experience in Rescue Brigades, Emergency Control, and Coordination with 5 years of verifiable experience.
