As soon as possible
The first 12 weeks are a structured handover. You learn the existing system from the people who built it, including [several weeks on site at the partner's location abroad]. After that, you own the firmware and the device side of the system together with a second embedded engineer and a PLC engineer.
What you will do
Learn the existing firmware and hardware during the handover, and document what you find
Maintain and extend firmware for the robot's controllers and sensors [MCU/SoC family, RTOS or embedded Linux]
Build and debug communication between devices, the PLC and our cloud platform [CAN, Modbus, MQTT, serial]
Bring up, test and fix hardware on site, with an oscilloscope and logic analyser when needed
Set up versioning, testing and release processes for the firmware
Work closely with our platform team (backend on Google Cloud) so device data arrives reliably
What you bring
3+ years of professional embedded development in C or C++
Firmware that runs in production on real hardware, not only lab or university projects
Experience with at least one RTOS or embedded Linux
Experience with industrial or vehicle bus protocols (CAN, Modbus or similar)
Comfort reading schematics and debugging hardware
Willingness to travel for the handover and for site work
Good English. Spanish is a plus.
Nice to have: robotics or motion control, ROS 2, safety-related development, Python for test tooling.
